Separating rotors from hubs submitted by Tim Lester

Published 2012

Separating rotors from hubs has always been a little problematic – I found a great way to do it, very fast, no damage. After reading another article (I believe Gordon Glasgow) that mentioned the use of a pickle fork (bearing removal tool). I wondered if you couldn’t just use two forks to quickly separate…..voila. After a pre-spray with some solvent and removal of the 4 bolts holding the rotor to the hub, just insert one pickle fork (opposite to each other) in the large gaps. Obviously, you cannot insert the forks pointed towards the center of the assembly, as they’ll bottom out immediately. Instead, insert each fork parallel and opposite to each other – at a 90-degree angle to the center. Tap each fork – the hub/rotor will separate immediately without damage. I have several pair – old and rusty – and this method worked very quickly for each. Saved me a lot of time.

Here are a couple of pictures Tim sent for the visual folks.
