EI Distributors

Dave Brisco

I purchased the EI distributor business from Gary Boone in November of 2007. The units I am producing are made to the exact same specs as Gary ’s originals. To date, as per Gary , there are over 277 Gary Boone EI roadster distributors out there and only one return. I will be shipping the first orders in mid January 2008.

Short description:

These distributors are made by using a later Nissan EI unit with some original Roadster parts and fabricating a new bearing retainer for durability. They fit and function in a Roadster like a factory part. Everything needed to install and wire the unit is included except a 12 volt coil. Price is $275.00 for 1600/2000 SU with vac advance, $245.00 for 2000 Solex w/o vac advance. Add $35.00 core deposit, $14.00 shipping and handling for either unit. See below for warranty and details. The only changes from Gary’s original package is I am now including a brand new vacuum advance unit on SU models, a brass contact cap and rotor, and a tube of Dielectric grease for connections.

I’m also offering a variety of high performance coils from Mallory, Crane and Accel along with custom fit 8mm wire sets in Red, Yellow, Black, and Blue, from OEM quality to Accel SuperStock up to MSD Super Conductor. LHD and RHD are available. If you plan on using a CD box, such as an MSD I can make any harness you need. Electric fuel pump relays can also be combined into the harness if you plan to use one.

Detailed description

The Nissan electronic distributors used for these conversions were very well made by Hitachi and Nissan, with one major exception, the vacuum breaker plate has a weak plastic bearing cage, which with age, will break apart., preventing the vacuum advance mechanism from working at all, and can lead to internal damage to the distributor. I fabricate new bearing cages of to replace the OE Nissan part. The Nylatron™ cage will last forever, eliminating the only weakness in Nissan's design. The mechanical advance mechanism is modified to 15 degrees of crank advance, the same pre-emissions roadster distributors. This distributor has been completely disassembled, cleaned, and inspected for wear or damage. Any worn or damaged components have been replaced with new Nissan parts. The re-assembly is performed with quality checks to ensure conformance to required dimensions and tolerances. Mobil One synthetic grease is used to guarantee long trouble-free life. Each unit will be run from idle to 7000+ rpm on the bench and an oscilloscope to check advance and output through a coil and spark plugs.

Your rebuilt EI distributor is shipped complete and ready to install. It includes a high quality all new wiring harness and a tube of dielectric grease for connections, enough to do the distributor connections, coil and plug wires many times. Each distributor includes a new brass contact distributor cap and rotor, new O ring and Gary ’s original installation instructions, troubleshooting guide and a parts list with a distributor drawing and wiring schematic. This distributor is easy to install and the instructions provide a method of setting the timing without a timing light or any other electrical device. A 12 volt EI coil is required with this distributor. There are several options, which include an OE Nissan 12 volt coil or one of several high output after market coils for EI systems. I can give recommendations on coil options or can provide a coil at a reasonable price. The distributor also works well with after market capacitive discharge ignition systems such as MSD. Install help is a phone call away; my cell phone # is included.

Solex units have the breaker plate locked, and the hole sealed, but can be converted to vacuum advance later if needed. Special requests for advance characteristics can also be done, as each unit is made to order. One new thing is colors are available. If you would like something beside clear coated cast aluminum, just say so. Wire harness can also be customized.

Detailed Terms of Sale

The price for the electronic distributor is as follows:

For distributors with vacuum advance, such as most SU carburetor 1600’s and 2000’s, the price is $275. For distributors without vacuum advance, such as Solex U20’s, etc., $245 Either version is plus $14 shipping and a refundable $35 core charge for your original roadster distributor. I accept personal check, money order, or Paypal (DaveandLindaB@comcast.net) This would cover a distributor and a coil and plug wires etc in the same box, US or International

At this point, due to sales tax laws I cannot sell to New Jersey residents. If you live in NJ, email for details.

International: Canadian shipping is $30.00, Japan and Australia shipping is currently $50.00 USPS international priority mail. Paypal Exchange fees and Customs fees are the responsibility of the buyer and can vary.

If you send a roadster distributor with your payment, ignore the $35 core charge. I recommend that you not remove your distributor until you have the EI distributor to install. If you do remove your distributor to send as a core with your payment, make a note of what direction the rotor was pointing before removing it. Do not send the cast iron base with a distributor core. The reason I need to charge the $35 core is that if I don’t get your original roadster distributor or you’re spare, I have to buy them in order to build more EI units. However, it is your option to keep your original distributor. Cores must be complete usable units from running cars. Junk cores will not be accepted for refund credit or returned.

I will provide my phone # if you would like more info. Just contact me to DaveandLindaB@comcast.net and I'll reply. I offer a money back satisfaction guarantee and a one year parts warranty with a lifetime warranty on my conversion labor.
