Body Rack

Mark Sedlack’s Body Rack

Mark's rack is constructed from 2x6's with 2x4 bracing to support the body. He added some diagonal braces to the cross-bars before beginning body work.

A template drilled in a scrap piece of 2x6 made it easy to drill the multiple sets of holes in both the cross-braces and uprights. The uprights have pairs spaced evenly to allow the body to be see-sawed into position while working alone. The front had to be raised, then the back, then the front....so as not to create too large an angle with any one lift. He used the rear roll-bar braces as a lift point for the rear.

The sketch of the rack is self explanatory and that is how most of us built this rack; I know I used the sketch.

I also added extra decking hardware as I am not fond of working under things that can flatten me. In one of the pictures you see my rack on wheel carts along with diagonal cross bars. That rack was only on those wheel carts when I needed to slide the whole thing to the opposite side of the garage out of the way. Some people have bolted casters to the bottom of their carts. I had a low steel cart made for the constant rolling around the driveway for the various things I was doing.

The first four pictures are from Mark.
