Bad Rotor?

Peter asked:

Power to the coil---new points/ condenser/ cap/ rotor/ plug wires/ plugs.

You have: -power to coil -power from coil to distributor -points spark when I rotate w/o rotor

Problem: there is no spark going to plug or plug wires (tried to look for spark arcing to engine ground.)

Mike aka exit64 answered:

You most likely have a bad rotor. Take it off and look and see if there are any tracks that are running down the sides of it. What happens is electricity is like water and follows the path of least resistance. It is most likely going straight down the rotor and down the distributor shaft. I learned this trick also from my first car many years ago, a TR 4A , that pretty much cured me of all mechanical things British. I spent two days of a three day weekend trying to sort out exactly the same problem that you just described. Change the rotor and drive.
