I finally found an active Datsun Roadster forum! Yay! Anyways Im rebuilding the carb on my dads 68 Fairlady for my Senior project in highschool. If anyone could help me out with this it would be much appreciated.

Also, i know that the 1600cc roadster only has 96 hp, but it still seems way to slow to me. Do you know what the most likely problem of this is, or is the datsun just really slow?? For example i take a right turn onto a 45 mph street and theres a car like 500 ft away coming down the road and i take off and i am flooring it and I have a hard time keeping that car from running me over...I dunno, it sure is a fun car to drive though!

There are two outfits that specialize in rebuiling SU carbs as a business. They sell carry parts too.

There is a guy on EBay that sells SU rebuild kits. They aren't a full rebuild kit. It's actually a partial kit without instructions.

Welcome to the site!

There are a lot of SoCal owners and I know that there are a lot of gear heads. I agree that you should plan on attending the Solvang show- tons of cars and plenty of people to talk shop with.

Where in Socal are you? You hsould find some locals to hook up with. Some of the Orange County crowd are hooking up this Saturday to have a "bloody knuckles" and tune up party. The more the merrier!

wow! thanks alot guys! I live in Orange County. Before my dad got the roadster I had never seen or heard about the car. He tought me to drive stick on it, and ive been hooked ever since. Is there any way to show pics of the car on this forum?? Thanks alot for your replies!

If you want to rebuild the carbs yourself, I recommend the install/little bit of rebuild info on the video produced by ztherapy. It will help you get started in the right direction. They also have all of the parts you will need.

You can put a little avatar on your login, as for multiple pictures, there are tons of places on the web that you can post to for free and leave a link for others to follow...

If you would lilke to get together with some roadster people, we are having a "bloody knuckles" party this weekend in Westminster. I am going to be swapping out my starter and I am sure there will be other roadsters and gear heads there. Here is the info I sent to some other owners in the area:

Hey folks!

Well, the party is on for this Saturday! My thanks to the Baumans for letting me have this get together at their place. While I am there ostensibly to swap out my starter, I am hoping some other people bring their cars and perhaps we can have a "tune up" get together. Do your timing, bleed those brakes, barbecue some food and have a great time.

Here are the directions to the Bauman's place in Orange County:

From the south:

- 405 north to Westminster Ave off ramp.
- Stay to the left on the offramp and exit onto Westminster Ave.
- Stay in the right lane and turn right onto Springdale (light at bottom of
hill).
- Stay in the right lane. Go over freeway.
- Turn right onto Navajo (flashing stop light at bottom of overpass).
- Turn left on Cayuga Drive (2nd street from stop sign at other end of
Navajo).
- Our house is second on right past Mohawk.
- I'll leave the beast in the driveway for reference

From the north

- 405 south to Garden Grove 22 fwy.
- exit Valley View off ramp.
- Turn left onto Garden grove Blvd at light.
- Turn right onto Edwards St (first light after off ramp).
- Turn right onto Navajo. (If you pass a school on Edwards, you went too
far).
- Turn right onto Cayuga Drive and follow the last of 'from the south'
directions above.

Figure to arrive any time after 10:00 AM.

This just popped into my head today but it's a pretty common problem for the accelerator pedal to "Slip" on the rod that it's attached to. This causes the throttles to not fully open when you have your foot to the floor. 2 ways to check are to reach down and grab the throttle pedal and pull up on it. If it moves up and you suddenly have more thottle travel, you need to fix that. the other thing to do is to floor the throttle (engine off) and set the hand throttle so the the linkage all stays at full throttle (or have someone step on the pedal for you) and then see if you can open the throttle levers on the carbs more than they already are.
If you can only get 70% throttle opening, the car will seem slower than it should be.
