Anther question on my '69 u20 Roadster.
In pulling the Water Pump / Fan & Fan Clutch assembly, the Fan Clutch looks to be pretty darn funky. I recall hearing that there was an early version of the clutch that was generally weak & worthy of replacing with another rev. of the part. I have looked thru the earlier discussions, but do not see anything recently discussed.
The Fan Clutch that I have is for a 7-blade fan. The clutch is attached thru the front with 4-bolts & a unique looking-oversized cotter pin thing-a-ma-jig in the front.
Is anyone out there familiar with this set-up & before I put it all back together - is it anything to be concerned about?
Thanks for your feedback.
Dan Magliari.

I heard of an actual fan clutch modification, but that was it. Can somebody dime in here on this one?
I am only aware a swap from the stock 7 blade to an older stock 4 to 5 blade fan to reduce that humming buzz. Can someone add more to this if I left anything out?
I more or less recommend just using dropping in an electric fan. It is can be activated temperature sensitive switch while freeing up a few horses. (Same logic applies to the water pump) It can also free up some engine space between the motor and radiator.

The fan clutches had a high failure rate, but a few are still in service. The most common suggestion is to replace the fan and clutch with a spacer block and the earlier 4 blade fan. There are at least 3 spacer blocks and 2 fans. Rallye's website has info about it, but any vendor can set you up.

A lot of folks run the electric fans, but there are multitudes of variations. I would stay away from the ones that mount through the radiator - they have been known to chafe through the radiator tubes causing leaks. A bad thing. If you make a bracket to mount it to the radiator sides, it is better. I personally like the idea of the stock fan and shroud - yes, you lose a couple of horsepower, but it is simpler and I like the stock look.
