Hi Im looking at a 67 1600 how much is good

Post by NISMOPOWERED »

Its in OK shape runs but the carbs leak(float),The rear brakes leak as do the clutch master/slave. Normal Rust in the trunk and floors/fenders but no holes. Will need a paint job, Its all white but faded. There is nothing inside that looks any good. It does have all the mouldings and knobs even the radio looks org(am).
Is $1000 worth it?
Thanks for any input.

Let me get this right, you are looking at a running driving 67 1600 that has no rot, but surface rust. It needs an interior kit and paint. I think that it is easily worth $1000, but I could be out to lunch....

Best of luck!

OK I should be more specific. It does have rust but just a little bubbleingin the front fenders behind the wheels and same in the rear. You can feel it but its just starting to come through the paint.

still sounds good to me. Keep in mind that I am on the East Coast. What we consider to be good may be considered fair or worse elsewhere...

A thousand bucks for a running 67 1600 albeit with a few issues is not bad. Prepare to spend some more dollars fixng all of the hydraulics to make it streetable. Who cares what it looks like until you get it running well and safely. I say go for it. Where are you located any way?

I spent $2500 on 99% rust free, non-running 69 2000, back in March. I'm in the Sacramento area. The car was from bumbf@ck northern California.

A running $1000 isn't bad from my perspective.

Sounds like a great deal to me, mind you I'm the guy that towed a wreck from Hollywood to Vancouver Island! Hey Mihn I think I was in that town, just off I-5 isn't it?

I'm going to play devil's advocate here, but you need to decide if it's worth it to you. If you buy a $1000 car that needs some mechanical work, paint, and all new interior, how much of that can you do (or want to do) yourself?

If you can do the mechanical and paint / bodywork yourself, it sounds like a decent deal. If you can't, you may be in for spending more money than if you bought a nicer car to begin with. I only mention it because I've done it myself a number of times, and I frequently see cars like this one at this link below. I think this car could be purchased for about $2200-$2400

I don't know what shape it's *really* in, but the paint, chrome, top and tires look good in the photo, and it seems to be priced to sell.

Buying a 1600

Post by Dan Zubkoff »

Well, I tend to agree...but heck I always seem to fall into the same trap.

To give you a feel, years ago I used to own a 65 Datsun 1500 (not the same 1500 I own now). I got a good deal on the car from the original owner, but the car had been sitting for 10 years. Well, the brake parts alone ran close to $1000, plus I had to replace the Clutch hydrolics, all the fuel lines, valve seals, rebuild the carbs, re-core the radiator, redo the gas tank, etc...etc...

Well, in the end it took about $2500-3000 worth of parts and work, just to make it a nice driver. At this point, I still hadn't even started the costmetics...

If could find a decent running, somewhat nice car for closer to the $2500-$3000 range, You'll enjoy the car more upfront & If you keep her for a long time, will end up saving money.
