Need a Little Help Near Austin

Post by selequin@dcc-services.com »

Hello all,

I have a 67.5 311, and need some restoration help getting it back on the road after about 10 years in storage. Typical stuff. Mostly exlectrical and working out the kinks. I'm in Austin. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Is your 67.5 a 1600 (SPL311) or 2000 (SRL311)? If you haven't done so, please consider submitting your info to the registry (we like to know where the toys are. :P ):

For starters, review these handy steps:

Then start asking specific questions. A number of great roadster folks in Texas.

Welcome! I'm located a bit south and west of you. One of the great roadster Gurus, Tom Walter is in Round Rock, but hasn't been active on the roadster scene of late

So what have you done or tried at this point? Does the engine turn by hand? Have you tried to start it? Inspected / cleaned the carbs? O yes, 1600 or 2000?

Yeah, I've been to Tom's place. He is very nice and willing to share advice, but he is a private individual not a shop that does work for hire. So if you are doing it yourself and need advice he's a great resource.

As far as shops, I've had good luck with John Shea of Japanese Motorsports, located in Round Rock. John used to work on and race Z-cars years ago so he would probably do a brake job for you (it would be easier if you brought him the parts, as they aren't exactly available in most garages) and maybe even tune your carbs, work on your suspension, replace wheel bearings, etc.

If you need your carbs totally rebuilt you could send them to Keith Williams whose information is listed on the Vendors page of this site. He'll send them back ready to bolt on.

If you need your radiator tested, boiled-out, or re-cored, go to Radiator King on South Lamar. They came highly recommended to me and did a good job on mine for reasonable $. That place looks sketchy but they are good.

If you are going to rebuild your engine there is a good machine shop called Bishop Machine Shop on 35, also up by Round Rock.

If you have specific questions shoot me an e-mail; I used to live down there and used a lot of local vendors.
