As I was getting off of the freeway yesterday, I down shifted from
4th to 3rd at an exit ramp and turned right. Since then, I hear this
ratttling sound.

A loose bolt or something?

Dunno...

I am crossing my finger that something came loose in the clutch plate, throwout bearing area. That is easier to fix than the internal tranny.

How much is a used tranny?

Maybe I will have to replace the transmission?

How much is a used tranny cost for a 1600?

RE:4 Speed Tranny

Post by S Allen »

Getting it rebuilt is probably a cheaper alternative and then you know exactly what you have. Mike Kerr does them. There is a local tranny shop here in Rohnert Park that has rebuilt one 4 speed and two 5 speeds for me. Finding a local shop is best. Pull the engine tranny yourself and take the tranny in for rebuilding. It will save you some cash.
