Lookin' for bar spec's
Hello All,
I wanted to find out if anyone had the spec's for a "low window" '67 rollbar. I am starting with the interior so, I wanted to fab one now. Looks like I will be welding anyway to fix the rotting floor! I know Autopower has one and I have known them for years but I'd rather do a custom bar (cheaper/better). I do want to make sure it clears the hard top as this car will not have a soft top!

RE:Rollbar Specs
There are not any measurements documented that I know of. That does not mean there are not any but it does look like a good write up opportunity. I would be willing to measure my street car for clearance height. I made a full roll cage for the race car and the rear hoop would make an excellent template. I have seen the front mount points on the edge of the package shelf but the best way is mounted to the floor right in front of the package shelf. I would recommend a horizontal bar right above your shoulder height for some 4 point seat belts. And, oh yeah, a third brake light mounted top rear of the bar. 1-1/2" DOM works nicely.

Sounds Great!
Nice Steve! Glad to see someone on the same page. That hoop is the important one I was looking for! The side rails and diagonal should be cake. If you could get me the height and width from outer to outer, that would be sweet. What pipe did you use? I figured 1-3/4 x 0.134 wall DOM seamless tubing would work well. I know Autopower uses 1-3/4" x .120 ERW.

I am plan to do one too... (JEEZ I getting a bigger and biger to do list every month)
I have not started on my mine but after some backyard landscaping I figured out a maybe useful approach.
- Use schedule 40 PVC pipe and fitting to create rough mock template. Not expensive at all and very easy to work with.
- PVC Hot Blue Glue dries quickly and the PVC Pipe Cutter ($4.99) cuts the PVC clean like a butter.
This way you can get a really really good idea on aproximate lenghts and what angle bends you will need for the final copy.
Like they say measure twice & cut once.

RE:Bar Specs
My tape measures are all over at the remodel project I have going on. I will measure it tomorrow for sure. There is a difference between the rear hoop I made for the race car and the one in my street car. The race car hoop is straight side to side where as the one on the street car narrows at the the top which makes it a bit wider at the bottom. Most likely for soft top clearance. The one I have in the street car is not a stock roadster roll bar but it should provide measurements good enough to build your own. I did a little sketch so you can get an idea of what I am talking about. For an all out road race car the weight of a roadster the SCCA requires DOM 1.50 .095 thick. You could use anything you want building your own but I like the look of the 1.50". I put the sketch in the Public Pic directory on the site. Here is a direct link http://www.311s.org/PublicPics/rollbar.jpg
More tomorrow.

RE:Roll Bar
Ivin,
Please do measure yours so we can compare. Is yours a stock one or home built? Thanks.

RE:Roll Bar Specs
Well, here are the measurements on the bar of my street machine. The top clears it just fine. I suppose the most important one is the height which was measured from the floor pan in front of the package shelf. The picture shows the bar height being 35" but that is not exactly true as the bar mounts on the angled spot behind each seat. So take that into account when fabricating your own. Go here to view it http://www.311s.org/PublicPics/rollbar.jpg
Any way, it should give a a place to start.

Hey guys...
I was planning to keep this secret to myself, but why? The only reason why is to be the 1st and only for awhile. So what the heck I gonna share to anyone interested
I got the close dimensions of the rare Austin Healey 3000's Alley rollbars from the owner one I met at a show. It is a cool and simple sturdy design. It's a double U-Bar that is welded level at the top.
From the front and back it appears to be a U-shaped single rollbar. From the side it appears to be 30-75-75 degree triangle, double bar wide at the top. There is flat metal bar across the middle of the front and rear support.
The rollbar also give the illusion that it is a B-pillar becuase the whole bar is wrapped in heavy Naugahide hiding the flat metal bar across the middle. Looks similar in a way to the Camaro convertable's rollbar/B-pillar.
To each his own...

The Bob Sharp racing manual has specs and such for the roll bar that they used to race. They cut holes in the floor and connected to the frame. You can download it from www.datsun.org if you want to check it out.

Rollbar
Sorry All,
I havn't been able to measure my rollbar yet since I hurt my back. My rollbar is an aftermarket one made in a shop in Ababama. Kirk Racing Products (205)608-1156. I can and will get that information to you.
Thanks,
Ivin
PS. Mine works fine with the top clearing (low windshield, 66).
