Upper timing chain tensioner

Does anyone know how to shim an upper timing chain tensioner? ie shims behind the foot to eliminate chain slack? or, how to rebuild or purchase, if there is such a thing, an upper timing chain tensioner for a 2 liter? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first 2 liter. Stock 1600 and stroker have been on the road many years.

The chain tensioner can purchased from our vendors. Not a cheap thing but it is neccessary when required.

You might want to see if your chain needs to be replaced. Old chains get stretched as the get old.

Here is the deal. If you have the death rattle, replace those chains. If they have a little more slack than you would like, you can pop the tensoner out, take it down to a hardware store and find some delrin spacers that will fit over the shaft. You can get a rough estimate of how many you need with it in the car, just push the tensoner out till it takes up as much of the slack as you can get with your finger, then add just a tiny bit. Putting it back together is tough but a lot easier than doing a complete rebuild when your upper chain lets go and ventilates your valve cover and oil pan.
