Front end mask

Post by SER240Z »

I was just wondering, how do you guys keep the front end nice while doing all this driving arount to Solvang and such? Is there a Bra or mask that was made for the roadsters, or do people have their own solutions for this?

Thanks

RE:Roadster Bra

Post by S Allen »

A few years back a Canadian guy by the name of David Palmer had some made up. I do not think they are availble any more and David got out of roadsters completely. I have one on my 67.5 and like it. Bra's can do damage too if you do not pull them off every once in a while to clean the debri that has crept in there. The paint can get scracthed by the bra moving around on trapped debri that acts as sand paper.

A loose bra? Is that like LSMFT??? Bwahahahaha! Sorry, I couldn't resist a set up like that.

p.s. unless you know different, LSMFT means "Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco". It's an old advertising slogan... 8)

I found this website which makes custom classic Bras. I have not had any experiance with them. so cannot say how they look or perform.
It says they can make one for our car but only lists as 310 model.

Also moisture trapped in bra lining can damage paint.

There is also a clear paint protection film you can apply. The application is meant to be permanent.
3M has a version.

I have seen it applied on cars at showings. doesn't look bad to me but you can see it when you get close.

Havent tried it myself.

I've found a company that has a pattern and will make one for $100.00. But they don't know what year the patter is for. Are all the roadster front ends generally the same? If it fits one year, will it fit them all? I only need it for long drives where I am concerned about debris messing up the front end.

Thanks again.

That is a lot more reasonably priced than the other one. I think I paid $130.00 for mine delivered. All front ends are pretty much the same except when you get to the fender flares. I am betting it would fit and for the price you cannot go wrong. I have had mine on the purple ride for several years and do not want to remove it until I go for a paint job. I know there is some damage under there. :( If you remove the bra to wash and wax or just use it on limited occasions you should be fine. Do you have any contact information on the vendor you found? I would like to get it.

For anyone interested, here is a link to their site. I have never dealt with them before so I cannot guarantee anything, but they are willing to take special orders for these, since they don't keep them in stock.

According to the person I have been in contact with, you can just go to the online ordering section an fill in the information.

Thanks all for the help and answers I have received, I hope this helps just as many people.

Perhaps it would be advantageous to set up a group buy to reduce costs. I bet that if you get enough folks together, it can be done.

I could try and see if they would go for something like that. I'll e-mail him tomorrow and see. In the meantime why doesn't everyone that is interested post here so I can let him know about how many people we're talking about.

Heck, count me in for one too! I just need to not leave it on all the time. On another note-- I work for 3M and did some research on the clear paint protective and that may be the way to go. I was hoping I could buy it at the 3M employee store but sadly they do not list it. Too new of a product I guess. I ordered some from an auto parts place from back east. I need something to put between the body and my rear spoiler on the Z car. It should work great.

Here is the response I got from Carbras.com:

Hi Scott -
Our prices are already rock bottom because we are the manufacture.
However I was given permission to offer you this .....

As long as they are all ordered at the same time ...

5-10 units I can sell them to you @ $89.97 each plus shipping
I hope this helps Scott

best regards, Ken

Let's get something together soon. I see that we've already got two people. Post here or PM me so I can get this order together.

Thanks
Scott

Come on guys, I know it's not much of a savings from the original price, but it's still something. I already got three people interested in one. I only need one more and I can place this order.

It would be very unlikely someone will rip it off you car in the parking lot. Not to many running Roadster around ya know.

I plan on lining mine in felt and 3m aerosol glue when it arrives.
