Post by csappleman »

Alving what kind of exhaust system did you put on your car. What diameter tubing and what muffler + tip were on it. Saw the pictures and now have one of them as my desktop image just wondering what it was. Thanks is advance

On the SR20DET car we are building right now, we did a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust. I had to modify both legs of the X-member to get it to clear without rubbing, but everything clears. Here is a shot of it as it crosses the axle:

Obviously, stock cars don't need anything this large, but if you are stuffing a turbo under there, you want to have as little restriction as possible...

Ohhh..Ahhh.. I like what Michael's got going under his car!

Question: Why the KYB's as opposed to Koni's ?

Alvin,

I thought the cheapo you had was the old FlowMaster (not the newer Delta FlowMaster).

Alvin,
My first name is Casey, S is my middle inital and Appleman is my last name. I have a 69 1600 that went from a 1600 to getting a 69 2000 motor as well as emblems, dash, etc. Now it is being transformed again with the sr20det I am trying to put in. The 69 2000 motor dropped a valve seat into the cylinder and I am still in the process of trying to rebuild her so I can get some money out of it. Alvin how did you get your car so low? I have comp springs front and rear and I do not think mine is nearly as low.

TR's Car
Is it possible I could get a picture or two of what TR's car from the back looks like. Thanks

Micheal
Thanks for all the help. How much would it cost to get a system such as the one you posted done at a local shop or how much would it be to get a system such as Alvin's done at a local shop. Thanks again.

Muffler Options

Post by Cochecita »

Hi All,
What kind/size muffler fit/perform/sound good in closer to stock vehicles. I imagine I can just go to a shop, but since it's a topic at hand. I found a good place near my house and had them put on my flex pipe and they mentioned my muffler was about shot. I thought they were fibbing until I noticed, in the colder weather, all of the exaust making it's way out before the chrome tip. :-)

The flowmaster Deltas look pretty cool. Any thoughts? This would be in my 68' 1600

Have a great day.

I'm running a 2 inch pipe all the way back, there is a glasspack under the drivers seat and it ends in a short Suppertrapp minus the trap. It sounds pretty cool on a U20, its light weight as well.

Do not go below 2 1/2 inch! Not with the turbo on there. You'll choke that poor engine out. If you're staying at stock boost, you'll be fine with 2 1/2.

I'm running 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent stainless steel from the turbo down to the X member. Through the X member to the back axle is Spintech's oval tubing which has the equivalent cross sectional area as 2 1/2 inch round tubing. It's a better fit through the X member than 2 1/2 inch round. Over the axle to the back is 2 1/2 inch round tubing. The muffler is a stainless steel Magniflow and a stainless steel Magniflow round tip.

Alvin, the video and sound is great. I'm going to try no muffler and just the stock megaphone first, then maybe no resonator and just a dual Monza tip. Loud is fun. Will probably grow up and add a glasspack after a week or two.

My old 1600 had a straight thrush and 2 1/4 pipe It sounded perfect, but they are collectors items now. Funny a $19.99 muffler now gets $75.00 on ebay!?!
