Door Stop Rivet Alternative

Post by SlowBoy »

That door stop rivet was a pain to cut.

I certainly would not want to make that cut again after a new paint job.

Since the car is being restored and modified I figure why not, it was the Datsun Roadster project or get quizzed about landscape maintenace in the yard.

Click the link for a trip to 311 WIKI LAND as the rest of the story is in the Restoration Tips Section. Did I mention pictures; I love pictures?

Nice work. How close is that in size to the master cylinder to pedal pins?
Both of my door stops ripped out of the doors, along with the sheetmetal :(

I can tell you that the clevis pins are not like the pedal pins from my 1970; the 70 pins have a groove for the return spring.

There is a pin on the parking brake that works just fine. To make one, find a big nail of the appropriate diameter. Cut it to the appropriate length (leave a little extra room - you can cut it shorter, cutting longer is more difficult...) and drill a hole for a cotter pin. A few 1500s that I have seen did not have rivets - they had the pins I described.

I am thinking the groove may not be necessary. I've seen and done this in the past...
Either put the spring through the cotter pin hole, then hook the other end, or better solution is use a slightly longer pin, put a washer, then the spring, then another washer, then the cotter pin/hairpin.

I have to find some Hurst shifter bushings, Probably have 6 in a toolbox somewhere. I think it may be the solution for an oval pedal, they were available in pretty hard steel.

On one car, I had some really short carriage bolts. Worked like a charm.
