I'm Just Sick

Post by Revbang »

 I am just sick. I just wrecked my Roadster. Every is OK, thank God. I rear ended a car that stopped quick in front of me. I've had it just 4 months. I guess that is what insurance is for. Check my needs list on the "Classifieds Wanted" section of the forum. My question here is:

Since I will be repainting the whole car, is the original red a good color for the Datsun. I don't know if my red is original or not. How do I get a code for having it mixed?

Did I say I was just sick. You guys must know how awful it is to hurt someone, something, you love. Chock it up to a lesson learned about what is really important in life. Nobody hurt. Thanks for understanding. Mark

Mark,

Very sorry to hear about your accident. Very glad to hear no one was hurt badly. Cars can be repaired. Man, I do feel for you though. Were you fully covered on the roadster? As to the paint, I have some Dupont paint colors that were used on early Datsuns on the site. Ralleye has some on their site too I believe. Any good body shop should be able to computer color match your paint for you. Wish you well in your parts search.

Yeah... I feel ya man. Darn frustrating to be have things going your way and have it all taken away. :(

Hate to get religious on ya, but the 1st commandment might mean something.

Everytime I get excited about my "Harlee" getting this much closer to being road bound I grip on myself put that car in check. And say to myself hey I got more important things to tend to right now old girl. I see you tomorrow.

Life is great with my Roadster, but It is even a whole lot better when my wife or 2.5 year old as co-pilot pulling into the Krispy Kreme sharing sips out of a Jamba Juice with each of use eating a scoop of our own Cold Stone ice cream on a beutiful day with full a full tank of premium gas with the only place we have to go to is miles and miles of open road...

Then I say myself, "Yeah car and the goodies are just the spice on top of what is important."

Can I get an pound, ya'll :!: :?: :!: :?: :!: :!:

Wouldn't wish what happened to you to anybody. You will get through it (again..).

Hope this helps ease the pain.

You are absolutely right about it being a first commandment issue. God in Christ is first and all else follows behind. By the way, you're not only preaching to the choir, you're preaching to the preacher! If you looked at my bio I am a Lutheran pastor. We need reminding too! Thanks for your word of encouragement.

I started looking at replacement costs for bumper, grill and windshield. All new at Ralley is in excess of $2000, not counting the body work I need done. I hope that to be a strong bargaining chip with the adjuster (if he ever calls me). I have been thankful for all the offers I am getting from the forum for help. With the insurance and your spare parts, we will get through this! Thank you God. Thank you Forum friends. Mark

The insurance company totaled by 67 1600 assigned a fair value to the car and took off my deductible and "salvage value". It looks like the insurance check will pay for everything if I do some of the scrounging and work myself (which is all part of the fun of owning a Roadster!)

My body man asked me about a clear coat on top of the last coat of paint. What do you guys think? He says it will give it "depth". He also says he can mix the last coat half paint and half clearcoat. That gives it the protection, but not the clear coat look. I've seen those perfect antique cars with the clear coat paint and it is pretty impressive. I'm leaning towards that. What do you paint experts think?

By the way, did I say I am feeling alot better about this whole thing? :D

Thanks, Mark

paint

Unless you are using a single stage paint, you need a clear coat on it. That is why modern paint is known as a 2 stage paint. There is a base coat and a clear coat. From what I have been taught, there should be 3 coats of base, and 1 light coat of clear with at least 2 more applied after the first coat has become tacky (about 5 minutes between coats for each layer). That will give you the depth to the paint. I have heard of people adding a little clear to a single stage, but it doesn't look anywhere neer as good.
