Seat Question: What Do You Think?

I got the Roadster out of storgae and have begun the last phase of the restoration (yippee!)
 I'm still looking at seats. The roads here in New England are much bumpier than what you find on the West Coast, and the harsh ride of the Roadster means you've got to find somethig comfortable to sit in.
 Corbeau offers some reasonably priced seats that look very nice, also.
 Take a look at this and let me know if you think it would be good in the 2000:

 It's their "Baja" seat. Has a racy look to it and should be comfortable.
 Think it's a good match?

I don't know if you want to go with racing seats. I have Miata seats and they are nice, they are also cheap. I have been thinking about racing seats for my car as it is more of a race car than a street car, but the Miata seats are comfortable and not really heavy. They have more padding than race seats as well. Race seats are also hard to get into or out of with the top on.

Yeah, I would go with the Miata seats. I had some Corbeau's in my roadster(not the style you are looking at) and they were too tall for the car. They fit, the top went up and down, and they were comfortable but they just did not look right. I am a liitle on the short side as well. Anyone with height would have had their head sticking above the windshield. Spec Miata racers are a dime a dozen in the SCCA these days. At least out here and in the mid-west. Find a shop that is building Spec Miata's and I am sure you could pick up a set of seats real cheap.

The origanal seats arn't bad if they are redone correctly. For some reason when roadster seats are redone, people forget to tighten the bottom support straps so they sag in the middle. I have seen several seats that suffer from this problem. My friends 67.5 2000's seats are great, who ever redid those did a good job. Explore your options and see what you like the most. As I stated earlier, the Miata seats are a good swap. I like mine but I think I want something lighter (not that the miata seats are heavy.)

I bought my seat covers from Classic datsun Motorsports and added some form and reinforced the bottom .
I have not tried them out on a real long trip yet but they seem pretty comfortable for four or five hours .
I reinforced mine myself but they sell a kit on e-bay. They also have a web site www.DatsunRestore.com The price is less the $20.00

I never liked the original Roadie seats:
 No side support, little padding, and they looked awful.
 I had no second thoughts about throwing them away.

Hmmm....
Here's another thought.
The Recaro SRD is the seat in the Honda S2000.
Recaro sells them for $525@
Might be cheaper out of a wrecked S2000,
although, the Honda seats are all leather.
Very pretty with lots of lateral support:

Those are pretty nice looking seats but there are two problems. First the width at the bottom is close to 21" and the roadster needs something closer to 19". Secondly the "Ears" on the seat back would hit some where along the door side as they stick out too far. CharlesK, why not register at the forum? It is free and pretty painless.

FYI: for future refence.

All the Toyota seat are too wide I know this beause we tried with the MR2 Recaro seats first. Those way a about 60 lbs.

I ended up using the 1988 Porsches 944s Leather with driver power seats (standard) Recarros powered. They weigh a little less than 100 lbs.

Being a previous Toyota from knowledge and experience up to 1995 every Totoya seat is interchangeble to every other Toyota becuase they all share the same track dimesions and bracket holes... After 1995 I don't know.

If you go Porsche seats every 911 and 944 after 1986 is powered.

They come in two varieties with sidelumbar and without side lumbar. The "s" or sport series seats came with the side lumbar. A real luxury when taking hard corners.
