Phantom Grip? Limited Slip Diff. application...

First post for me on the board. I can't believe i've been looking at the 311s site for so long and never saw this forum before. I'm always watching the roadsters list...Anyways, I found this site and they have Nissan VLSDs, whatever the V stands for. Would these be something that might work with a Motor swapped roadster?

I'm a couple hundred miles south of Seattle in Vancouver...Right next to Portland oregon.

I found that site dreaming about my next roadster project. Of course, there is still a bag of money that needs to drop from the heavens before I can actually start. That company sells front clips also, which I think would be interesting to look into doing a full front end swap into a roadster. I'd better keep saving my money and practice my welding.

I wonder if the Nissan LSD would just hook right up to a motor/tranny swap from a SR?

No those won't work unless you make the car a IRS set up. Roadsters use an R190 rear end, it is a strange size, the early Datsun trucks used it, and the 510 wagons (live rear axle). To my knowlege, noting else uses a R190 and the only way to get an LSD now is used or make the find of the year (as I did last year).

H-190. The R-190 is an oddball Z car performance diff. Very rare. All the R series diffs are IRS while the H series are live axle. The confusion with 510's is that the the coupes and sedans used IRS while the Wagon used a solid axle. The 510 Wagon and Roadster diffs are the same H-190.

I had a phantom grip in my Mitsubishi Eclipse FWD. I ran the Eclipse at 19 psi and always had traction problems. I could spin the wheels in 1-3 without popping the clutch. The phantom grip worked ok for a little while. Then some lady in a $500.00 Mercury tracer, with no insurance, and no license ran a red light and Tboned me at 45. Totalled the car.
So I guess the phantom grip did work ok while I had it. I had it less than a week before it was totaled. I only had one payment left on it too...

I have been following various spindles on this site trying to figure out how to have LSD in my roadster. I like the idea of the shortened Mazda RX-7 GLS-SE fron 1984-85, but have had some trouble finding this year rearend. Do you guys know of something newer that is still light and can be shortened to fit without having to change bolt patterns, or if a newer RX-7 rearend will work? Thanks for all of your help.

Best bet I've heard if you want to shorten an axle to make it fit is a toyota truck rear end. Don't know specifically which one but something pretty current as TRD sells the LSD's and gear sets for them. They are, relatively speaking, cheap and you can get almost any gear set you want. These are from the trucks that Toyota races in an off road series. It'll wind up being more expensive than finding an H-190 Limited Slip but it'll be new(er) and parts are more than plentiful.
The RX7 GSL-SE axles are getting scarce as all of the Mazda guys love that swap. If you look around you'll still be able to find one but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for one to show up on Ebay.

theres a diff with everything from a early 90's rx7 on ebay right now for only $100 so far no bids

there is three rx7s in the junk yard in daytona beach....hmm

how hard to swap the rx7 into the dats?
