mileage?

Post by doobop101 »

this may have been asked before but I will dare to ask again.
I have a pretty much stock 69 2000 ..What should I be expecting to get as far as mileage on a tank of gas?

Thanks,
Brian

I get roughly 20MPG with my 1970 2000. It's not currently tuned particularly well so I think that my mileage should be higher.

By the way, if you did not know Roadsters only take premium.

At Solvang I was getting 30 mpg with 4 cracked pistons. No joke, its 60 miles to Solvang from San Luis Obispo and I used 2 gallons of gas on the way down and the same for the trip back. I can't wait to see what I will get with a healthy engine.

You can run less than premium in most Roadsters with no ill effects. I have done it many times. Listen carefully for pinging and if you hear it go up in grade or down in ignition timing.

30MPG is great! I usually don't get that high. I am in the mid 20s

Best I ever got was 33mpg at a steady 68mph highway cruise. With the solex's and B cam, 20 is about average now.

Slightly off topic but....Anyone know how many gallons the stock tank holds? Seems I can only stuff in about 9.5, even if I run it REALLY low.

I have coasted in on fumes and put 10.6 in mine. The tank was really empty.

Hmmm, I guess that big dent in my tank that a PO put in from backing into a rock or something must be about a 1 gallon dent!

I guess that "21MPG around town with a lead foot" (impinhigh) might explain my 20.

Uh, around town I think I get about 6. Its realy bad, but thats why I ride a bicycle to work and every where else I can. I hope the new engine will be better but I have a feeling that it won't. Oh well, you gotta pay to play right? I'm also geared really low, so that doesn't help either. I do have a lead foot as well. The break in period is going to be a long one. I can't even drive on the freeway and keep it under 4000 rpm. Oh well, its my own monster.

Only seem to get about 150-175 miles per tank in the city on the SPL and seems a little rich.
But in the last 2 weeks I have been trying to load different needles to get it back up to about the 200-250 range that it got when leaded gas was avail.
Started with M43 needles...goes like h..., but runs rich.
Changed to Kester kit needles (#?) and kept the timing at 16 degrees...improved mileage but pinged when pedal hammered at lower rpms.
Loaded M39 needles last night...hoping to find how they do this weekend as initial blast around seem promising.

If this doesn't pan out, it might be time to put some z-therapy or new bodies etc... this winter.
Can't do a swap yet because the engine and tranny has less than 1k on it.

The last long trip was to Shasta last year...cruisin at 65 to 70
and got 32 mph. But it's a 1600 with highly modified head work,
need lots of air at 4600 feet.
