Oil LeaK?

Post by JoeK »

So I get oil pooling where I don't expect it. In the little V like cup formed at the top of the intake manifold, where it mounts up to the motor . I wipe it away, then go for a drive, and it's back again. The PO told me he thought it might be traveling along the manifold bolt threads. He was sure it wasn't from a leak in the valve cover gasket.

Has anybody ever heard of this? Is this a common U20 thing? Should I just go ahead and change the valve cover gasket?

Is there a oily trickle line leading below the valve cover to the intake cup?

Is your breather fileter above the cup?

I would try removing the cover gasket and cleaning it up in some detergent and hot water in a bucket thoroughly. Then condition it with some WD-40 or belt dressing.

I had the same thing. You've probably got a slight crack in the head right at one of the studs. The oil leaks out through the threads. It's not terminal, you can run it like that for years. Next time you have the head off for work you can bring it to a good shop and have them check it and weld it if needed.
