"Wiring Question " HELP!!!

Post by PROUD ROADSTER OWNER »

I have a 1969 SPL 311 1600 Datsun Roadster which I'm in need of an expert on the wiring of this car. I need to know where the three wires that are wrapped together that come out of the firewall and either go to the ballast resister or coil go ? Two of these wires are striped and one isn't . I know there is a electrical diagram on this site and others but I didn't see where these go ? A general break down on which wires go where on the coil, ballast resister and distributor would be deeply appreciated ? THANKS VERY MUCH !!!! DON

A) The solid black should go on the coil negative.
B) The black/white stripe (with red band near end) should go to coil positive.
C) The black/white (with white band) should go to one end of ballast resistor and D) black/white stripe (no color band) coming off the opposite (bottom) side of ballast going back into the loom
(i.e. 4 wires total)

Please note I noticed that wire C & D on my 1600 is black/yellow stripe (with white band) and black/yellow, so I must be color blind of some sort even thou the diagram says its to be black/white.

Hope this helps

Perhaps the white has been stained over the years and has faded to a yellow.

That could be the case.... or the three were originally black/yellow stripe and one of them faded out to black/white stripe.
Nah.
Your explaination sounds better.
Probably faded from the ballast resistor heat.

Happy motoring!
