Right on Alvin, I'll see you there. The roadster show is a joke. Its neet to see lots of roadsters, but it is a joke because its no fun. Last year there were all of what 10 cars that went up the hill? There is no roadster track day, autoX, just a long hot drive for a day of show. NO thanks, Ill go hang out with the 510/Z group, they are more fun.

just my $.02

wine and cheese?

Post by impinhigh »

Yuens,
2003 was my first time in Shasta and attended both the Roadster show and Datsun meet. They certainly are two difference scenes with awesome qualities that stand all on their own.I guess I’ve been called both a fogie and a hooligan that just depends on how many beers I’ve poor down. (Not behind the wheel of course) And dam it!! When did they lay out the “wine and cheese?? I did not see any and I was hungry!!

Both groups dedicate a lot of time and effort into the passion they have for their cars, be it go fast or go slow, and that’s what I appreciate. To each his own, said one smart fella! I can only make one event this year and since it’s the 20th I'll see you at the Roadster show, I’ll be the guy looking for the wine and cheese. I could change my mind if the All Datsun guys have a better spread!! :D

My point was that it was stupid to split it. I enjoyed having both last year. The roadster show was cool, but the stuff up the mountain that most of the roadster owners didn't take part in. I would love to go to both but its just not going to happen. Ill go to the all datsun one because it encludes everything.

I went to Shasta in 2000 when my 67 2000 was unrestored but runnig. Upon entering the show, I heard someone refer to my car as "The 67 with the owee fender" (I had a paint blotch on it). I knew there was another show in town that weekend and I found out that they were not welcome at the roadster show.

I know there are many wonderful people that go to Shasta (many of whom come to Solvang) but I was kind of put off by the elitism put forward by this show.

I like all Datsuns- roadsters, 510s, Zs, trucks, 1200s - whatever. I think we would get more support from Nissan if we started showing a united front of Datsun owners, but unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Roadster owners need to look at the big picture if we want to get some more support from Nissan. In the big picture, we are the small fish in a very big pond. There were only about 45,000 of our cars made, how many other Nissan producst are on the roads? I think we need to be more accepting to those with more mundane cars and look for their support, if we show some support for them, they will see we have some cool stuff and support our cause as well. I did a local Datsun run (ZONIC 510s) and a few people knew me from Shasta and were sad to here that my car was unhealthy and not at the run. I think we need to have a true all datsun meet where those people who just want to wax their cars can, and all .0those who want to drive them can. Just because we are the old fish in the pond doesn't make us the biggest.
I agree with Andrew if we quit acting like Datsun Snobs, we might get a little more support from nissan. With the part supply shrinking rapidly this might be a good thing.

Stepping off the soap box now...

Yeay, a chance to use the geopgraphy lesson's from school. It's Mount Shasta City or Mt. Shasta City. It is right next to Mount Shasta itself and dormant volcano in northern California. It kinda of a sleepy art colony town surrounded by lots of trees and curvy, incline, decline roads in the upper Califnornia elevations. Air is thinner than the valley so you may want to adjust the fuel mixture if don't run SUs or EFI.

Steve had a typo. I do it all the time too so cast no any aspirtions upon Steve about this. As you can see I can't spell aspirtions either.
