Volvo front brake line adaptor block
Uno, at 55 with failing memory, I meet new people every day, so to speak.
I have looked and looked and can't find all the info we had here about a brake manifold block someone made for the Volvo front brake conversions that simplifies the front brake line attachment to the calipers.
Anyone know where it is on this site??
Scott

Go to "Technical Info" on the main page, click on "Brakes", then "Click here for Volvo front caliper conversion" (it's the first item). In the 3rd paragraph, there are two "Note"s, the 2nd one refers to Mark Sedlak designing a manifold. Click on that link and it will take you where I think you want to go.

This is for the people who can't follow directions.

Yes, the adaptors work fine if installed properly with the crush washers.

Sedlack stuff
Well, I must have looked right at it a dozen times and never saw the link. I went to the Volvo brake section right off the bat. Oh well, another example, as my wife would say, of Male Pattern Blindness when it comes to finding something.

RE:Volvo Brake Adapters
Hey Scott, we all have our moments!
No biggie! My machinist buddy no longer works at the same company due to political reasons. He promised to make me a set but that is about all I expect from him.

Volvo Block Adapters
Our experience with the adapters is that you have to make certain you find a set of calipers that have the surface around the inputs of the brake lines machined flat (as indicated in Mark Sedlack's info). Since these inputs were originally designed to accept two individual lines that issue was not important when the calipers were originally manufactured. In our case, we had one caliper that worked fine and another that would not seal no matter how many crush washers you installed. There was some talk about an "aftermarket" caliper but all the calipers available now are remanufactured from OEM castings so the differences are probably from part number consolidations on the part of remanufacturers.
Don't get discouraged, though, Mark's idea is a great one, just make sure you do your homework! By the way, we have a set of blocks that we won't be using along with banjo bolts, NPT to AN adapters and about a million copper and aluminum crush washers. If anyone is interested call the shop, $40 plus shipping.

So why is it you should only use the 1975 240 calipers?
Why wont the later calipers fit? I've been looking around at volvo parts sites and they all seen to have the same part numbers from the 70' up to 86.
Even if they dont have the machined face, you could use the 2 pipe method to connect them. Has anyone verified that the later model calipers cant be used.
I can find heaps of later model calipers in Australia, trying to find a set from a 1975 is the problem

RE:Volvo Calipers
There are two different types of Volvo calipers-one for the non-vented and one for the vented. I would say you could get an answer to your question by going to the local parts store. Have them check the caliper application for the different years. The non-vented calipers may be the same for the later years. I just put the '75 caliper in the write-up because I know for a fact they will work. I am almost 100% positive you cannot mix vented and non-vented parts but I could be full of it.
