It was sugested to me that the synchros can simply be turned around and reused if one half is warn. This comes from a very knowledgeable source, I just wanted to check his advice.
Thanks

Yeah, you can do that. It's the cheap fix. If you look at the synchro ring, you'll see that only one side of it engages the synchro sleeve. Only that side wears. Problem is that the synchro sleeve also wears, so you won't have like new synchronization. If the sleeves aren't too bad, it'll be fine. If the sleaves are worn badly, they should be replaced. If you can't afford new rings AND new sleeves, I'd get new sleeves (also called synchro couplings - they're the part that the shift fork moves) and flip the rings. I'd also probabley swap the rings from 1st and 2nd with those from 3rd and 4th (pretty sure 1-4 are all the same ring) as the higher gears don't wear the synchros as much as the lower gears.

Syncros
I think it might be possible to use a Porsche syncro ring. It is only one sided, but it might still work. At this point it is just guess, but it would make a rebuild a whole lot cheaper. Anyone want to send me a syncro ring that I can take to compare with a Porsche one?

I remember Mat Silvey's page regarding his Roadster 5-speed mentioned that he had a Porsche Synchro...
I think maybe Mike Kerr at Roadster Restoration might have an a couple answers to the question.

Syncro
I need one to go check to see if they will work. The porsche ones are taperd to one side, but if they are the same size in all other dimentions, wouldn't it work. You have one side that is identical, the other just tapers; ok, so you can't flip the thing, if they are easy to get, who cares. It could be an answer to a big problem.
