R16 Adjstable cam gear

Post by ianmiller07 »

Just a wild idea, but has anyone ever seen an adjustable cam gear for the R motor? With the new cam for the stroker I would like to be able to time the cam.

Thanks

I believe that Malvern Racing either had one, or could make one. Their contact information was:

Malvern Racing
271 Malvern Farm Drive
Charlottesville, VA 22903-7440 US
phone: 434-971-9668
fax: 434-971-5652

I say was because the key guy behind it has died. Their website is no more, so they may be defunct. Let us know what you find.

No sure of the R16, but I think I saw one for the U20 at Fairlady Products.

An adjustable cam gear came in one of the motors for my race car. I've done a little research, and haven't come up with a phone number for the original source (Dial In Cams). I've only heard of one other adjustable gear, which used offset woodruff keys to change the timing.

Here's a pic of mine:

Adjustable U20 gears can be made from stock ones by drilling out the holes for offset bushings for a small block chevy adjustable cam gear application. Any speed shop or summit or jegs will have the offset bushing kit. you'd just need to find a machine shop to drill the stock bolt holes out to the propper oversize

I think that Dean sells one that does not use the bushings. At least there was one on his web site. It is of course a U20 item only. I searched for Dial-In-Cams to see about the R16 unit, but the only lead that I have is from a Porsche 928 lister that indicated that he got his from California. I could not find a contact though...

I called Malvern Racing yesterday. I got an answering machine and left a message, but have not heard back from them yet. I just wanted to keep everyone informed. BTW thanks to everyone for the information.
