I am getting ready to put in my order for the parts needed to replace my timing chain. Will I be making a huge mistake by going with an aftermarket chain compared to OEM for twice the cost?
Do you get what you pay for?
While I am on subject does anyone have an idea what this is going to cost me with someone else doing the labor and me supplying the parts.. My upper chain guide busted and put a hole through my valve cover.

The only car that has a chain that can go thru the valve cover is the 2000.
You never know about aftermarket products, talk to the vendors they are the ones who have seen the good and the bad with these parts, talk to them.

There are actually two chains you might need to buy. The after market ones "might" not have the proper markings you need to properly allign the chains.
Not mention the chain guides. Those you will have to get from a vendor.
If all the gears (lower, jackshaft, and cam) are not in good conidition those will need to be replaced too. Again you might need a vendor's help to locate that part...
If you have a bottomless wallet you can convert to a serpentine belt system. I have only seen done once.

RE:Vendors & Timing Components
I believe you can trust anyone of them. I have dealt with them all at one time or another. I think you will find that Dean of Fairlady products tends to have the lower prices. Some people do not like Dean but he has never done me wrong. 2 liter timing parts are not cheap any way you slice it or dice it. Good luck!

Another thing to consider is their location relative to where you live. The farther is has to go sometimes it may cost depending on how it is being shipped.
