....AND, slave hose direction........
I forgot to ask this......the slave hose has one shorter end fitting, and one longer end fitting.......which one goes on the slave cylinder?
Thanks!
Thanks!

RE:Slave Hose
I will take a guess at it. The big part gets threaded into the slave and the small part mounts on a clip like bracket where the hydraulic line is threaded into it. I could be wrong of course!

It has been a while since I looked at these, so bear with me. If I recall correctly, the short end is cut flat while the long end has a cone shaped cut. The short end goes into the slave cylinder with a copper crush washer while the long end bolts to the bracked on the firewall and the flare nut fitting seats the flared hose on the cone end.

RE:Slave Hose
By golly Sid-you are right again. I went and looked and even though I cannot see the end going into the slave the long end does appear to be attached to the frame with the clutch hydraulic line fitting screwed onto it. Oh well, I tried.

Steve,
I didn't mean to step on your toes on that. I am going from my shady memory of the last one I did. (need to do another one, so it was good thinking!) I was in the same boat on the last one, so I just analyzed the parts and how they fit together. My parts cars were located some 80+ miles away, so I had to figure it out on my own.
I have found that if you sit and really look at things, their relationship becomes evident in a lot of cases. (either that or I fall asleep - either way it is a win for me!)
any takers on the racer?

RE:Slave
Hey Sid, no problem at all. And you are right-given some time there is a usually some logic as to how things go together. Sometimes it is more obvious than other times.
No takers on the racer as yet. I will try the Ebay scene in a few months.

Sid and Steve..........I wish every exchange of ideas in this world was as cordial and entertaining as yours!
I want to thank you both for the feedback........and let you know that thanks to your always helpful contributions, I solved this new challenge! I must say that this has been one very enjoyable journey since I bought my roadster exactly one year ago (I got it on February 17, 2003!), and the members of this forum have been a significant factor in this.......and in me doing things right!
I am sure that once the BAR is done with (Feb. 26) I will spend the time needed for this baby to drive me happily to Solvang!

Jorge,
I am going to go out on a limb here and speak for Steve as well. You are most welcome!! Too often, lists and bulletin boards can become havens for those that want to prove their superiority over everyone else. On occasion, the Roadster list started to steer down that path, but it has always been righted. The entire purpose of forums like these is the exchange of information and ideas to promote the enjoyment of these cars. It is a shame when things degrade to the point that people lose interest in the cars and they are neglected or chopped. That takes one more out of existence and removes a possible supporter that could improve the stature of these wonderful toys.
Now I want to make a comment about Steve. I have long been of the opinion that there are a few folks that have given MUCH more back to the Roadster community than they have taken. The names that come to mind are Dann from Rallye, Ross from Sports Imports, Greg Valazza of Datsun.org, Rob Beddington of Fairlady.org, Tom Walters for his invaluable articles, Gordon Glasgow for his fantastic website, and Steve Allen for the entire 311s.org site. This is by no means an inclusive list, but just a few names off the top of my head. Dann was for many years the only known source for a lot of Roadster parts for many people. Without him soldiering on, more cars would have been junked or horribly butchered. Some folks slam him for the prices he sells parts for, but he was often the "only game in town." Ross likewise was a valuable parts resource, and the club that he founded was the basis for many of the clubs around today. Greg's fantastic website provides an introduction to many who have never seen or known of a Roadster. Tom's knowledge of Roadster technical data has been an almost unending source of amazement and insight. Gordon has gathered and posted in one place some of the most useful yet unavailable information regarding Roadsters (such as real useable specs for machinists). That brings me to Steve. Before I ramble on about Steve (and make him blush), let me say that this list is NO WHERE NEAR inclusive of all the folks that have done wonders for the Datsun Roadster. Les (Classic Datsun), Stan Chernoff, Dean (Datsunparts.com), Don (Rising Sun Racing), Scott Scheeler (former owner of Rising Sun Racing) and the other vendors that I have failed to mention have gone to great lengths to help save the Roadster population and they merit mention. Other owners are notable for their efforts to get the cars out there for public view as well (Gerardo Magana, Dan Philbin, for example.) I certainly cannot leave out Mark Dent for the site that he poineered Datsunroadsters.com. There are too many to adequately list here. Now on to Steve...
When Steve started 311s.org, a LOT of people poo-poohed the idea of a registry as folly. Mike Bell had tried and actually published one years ago, but it was not a rousing success. Other websites tried to get a registry going. Steve made it a reality. He started with information gleaned from a few sources and a host of input from the list and has over 1200 vehicles chronicled! That is impressive when you consider that these were (and unfortunately are) seen by many as throw away cars. Greg did a valient effort with the 67.5 2000s, but Steve has them all. Plus, his collection of information is almost overwhelming. If Steve pulled the plug on this site tomorrow, the void would be enormous.
Well, I think that we need to thank Steve for this great forum. We also need to thank all of the other folks that have done so much to keep the cars alive. If you have taken the time to read my rants and ramblings, take a few more moments to send a sincere note of thanks to a Roadster person (or personality as the case may be) to encourage them to keep supporting the hobby. A few words of thanks go a long way.
I personally want to thank everyone that I have mentioned above as well as everyone that has helped me along the way on this journey. I especially want to thank my wife and daughters. Their understanding and encouragement (in whatever form it takes) has been incredible.
I will step down off the soap box now....
Regards,

Sid hit dead on the head...
I for one would lost if it were for everyone and the countless others that Sid mentioned and did not mention that had put and compiled all this stuff.
I am immensely grateful.
Steve is still religiously adding and maintaining more info. I know becuase everything little relative factoid I have sent directly to him have been posted somewhere on this site. It is not much, but that is how I thank people whenever they have helped me.

Gentlemen:
I must say that I am even more grateful now to be part of this amazing family of Roadster lovers, and part of this group of members of the forum. I must say that I never fail to thank each member that takes the time to answer my questions, offer help, and always with respect, and deference to one another. I happen to be one of those guys that relied exclusively on the parts AND help from Dann and Gary at Rallye for a significant part of the journey. I still buy and consult Dann frequently. Once I found this forum, I have had equally enjoyable and educational experiences. It's true that Steve deserves a "ROADSTER'S OSCAR", but is equally true that each one of the persons mentioned deserve credit for their contributions. I make it a MUST, and priority to always thank each individual who dedicates time to my rantings, and we should always do it.
I REALLY enjoy this and have great deal of respect and admiration for the quality of individuals I've had the honor to meet here!
Jorge
