"What's it worth?"

Post by Sloloco »

So, I found my cars long lost sister! It's another 1967, 1600. It has a second paint job on it and minor leaks front to back. Everything is there (even jack and spare) but the soft-top. It needs love but has lots of potential. What do you guys think it worth? It's car#SPL311-03071. I'm very tempted as it could be my car for Solvang since mine may not be revived by then.

It would help if you had a few pictures... ;)

Can't judge the running mechanics using web. You have to judge that for yourself.

Let me work on that! I think I might be able to see it again on Fri. If not, then Saturday.
Thanks!

If you can give a more complete picture (in details, not just photographs), that would help. How bad is the interior? How bad is the rust? Is anything missing? Is it a driver, or a planter in someone's back yard? Details, details!

Okay here goes... There are leaks from the valve cover and possibly the pan. The trans. was covered as well but could be blowback, same with the rear diff. The engine was running rich and idling high at about 2k. Since the rpm's were so high it was belching out a bit of (rust colored) coolent from the overflow. The body was straight with very minor rust behind front tires and in front of rear tires. The body was very straight with no evident body work. It was a second paint job, looked to be sunrise red instead of the original. It only has the hard top which, is in pretty good shape. Speedo, clock and, maybe one more gauge did not work. The trans felt tight and synchro was still there. Interior was rough but original. All chrome was intact but neded at least a once over with polish. It has spoke wheels on it (blah) with new tires. The fit was tight in back and you could see rubbing on inner fender due to air shocks not being filled. The e-brake was missing? The bumpers looked good and that's what I can think of for now. I did notice some minor differences between mine and this one. I have chrome molding, her's were plastic set in metal. Also, the mirror was mounted to the bar on the windshield instead of off the dash?! Just little things that reminded me this was built before true "mass production" times. I hope that helps...now, back to work I go (shhh!)

price paid

Post by impinhigh »

I just picked up another 68 1600 and I paid 1350.00 for a car with a good running engine and what appears to be clutch problems. Other items similar to yours. Car has no rust and miata seats. It'll be a daily driver. Use that as a rule of thumb but, I know a lot of you are partial to the earlier cars and that may bump the price a bit.

Lance,
Is that the 66 up in Atascadero? Coolent leaking while idleing isn't good. I think it might have a blown headgasket. Its not a hard fix, especially with the engine out. If you go look at it on Sat, give me a call or email me and I'll go check it out with you.

Will
Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

Hey Will,
I figured you would have seen it by now! I will wait to go back up on Saturday if you want to join. I think she is highly motivated to say the least. Between your 2 cents and my 2 pence we might have something
I'll catch up with you Friday.
p.s. What do you think about a local club? (see club banter)
