300ZX Calipers

I checked around with my regular parts vendors and I can get a pair of loaded 300ZX calipers by Monday at the latest. This particular jobber is very good with all the trial and errror stuff I have to go through and he'll deliver them and wait while I try them out. If they hang from the stock spindle all y'all will be the first to know.
My vendor shows a few different listings for various year ranges and turbo vs. non-turbo. I should be looking for the last generation of 300ZX, like 1991-1996 or something like that, right? I seem to recall that the turbo and non turbo calipers are externally the same, is that correct to the best of your knowledge? What exactly is a "Z32"?
Also, the 280ZX master will not clear my turbo downpipe (it's too long) so I'm hunting for something with a 7/8 bore that's shorter. Maybe a Wilwood Mopar type master or something from Tilton or how's about a 240SX master?

I've talked to a machinist buddy of mine, and i think i'm going to give it a shot to design a caliper bracket that will work with the 300zx/skyline brake (z32) caliper. I also am going to find suitable rotors at a local used rotor shop. They literally have just about any rotor you can think of, it's a sight to behold. The key is the over-all mounting depth of 44mm, +/- 1mm. I'll look into the saab 9000 tip as a starting point, tho those rotors seem smaller in diameter than 11". I'm using 11" as a bench mark because that is the diameter of the stock rotor (ok,, 11 3/16" X.400 is stock) and going to a smaller diameter is worse than keeping the stock brakes. You need to look at the diameter of the rotor as if it's a pry bar, the longer the pry bar, ( the bigger the rotor diameter) the less force you need to input to get a desired result. This is an over simplification, and just an example, used to show a point only and i do not take responsibility if you modify your brakes in anyway.
I'll keep you informed on my progress, and if/when i hear anymore from precisionbrakes.

I am interested in the caliper conversions. Especially ones that don't have all of the extra leak points like the Volvo units. There was someone that came up with a neat unit to minimize that, but he has not machined it up yet that I am aware of. Besides, the Volvo conversion is as expensive as the stock replacements the last time I checked - the core prices for Volvo calipers was insane....

Is there a web site that gives brake rotor and caliper dimensions? The 300zx brake caliper conversion shown on the Rose Auto website appears to use a stock Roadster rotor. I am more interested in that (from a cost perspective as well as using the stock wheels) than the conversion requiring a 15" wheel. We don't have a rotor shop here that I know of, so I don't have the luxury of trying them. If the Saab rotors work and are an almost bolt on affair, that would be neat too.

Don't know if this helps, but this web-site for Disc Brakes Australia lists some good info for stock replacement and their slotted and vented rotors, it lists dimensions etc and I believe that you can buy them in "pre-drilled" so that you can get them drilled to the required stud pattern.

300ZX Calipers
Hi Sid,
I wrote to the Rose Auto people and they said the calipers were not 300zx. They were from a "Skyline" (is that a JDM car?). I wondered about that same thing since they clearly used stock 311 rotors which are only about .400 thick when new. The 300zx calipers work with a rotor that is more than twice as thick.

I have contacted Dba directly and for us on the west coast it is a bit difficult to get these. The local Dealers here of Dba brakes dont stock these and they have to be special ordered. Mike got this set from Dean at Fairlady.

test drove it with no calipers. lol. Just used the E brake. course this was just in the parking lot not on the open road that would quite irresponsible and illegal... hehe.
As to the which ones I dont think that is sorted out.
Those Skyline brakes would be nice but as to cost for what I can gather we are talkin the range of $ 1000.00 to $ 2000.00 for parts alone so I think those are going to get ruled out.
