And where do you find them? I've got a Clymers I got on Ebay. A Chilton that's next to useless, because it tries to cover every car and does a spitty job I even bought a "how to restore your Z car" book because I thought it would help (and it does). I bought a really nice picture book (Fairlady by Phil Brooks) which is beautiful, but not loaded with tech stuff.
Unfortunately the car came with no data at all so I'm not even sure what all the contols on the dash do (missing a few knobs etc.) Didn't anybody ever publish a comprehensive repair book on these wonderful little cars? And if they did where the he11 are they?
Unfortuantely it sounds like you have all the best book information available to you already. You could go to Gordon Glasgow's site and check the Rising Sun Archives. He is listed in the interesting links section. Also Greg Valenza's Dastsuns.org has a lot of good info as well. What kind of tech info are you looking for anyways?
Well, I think between what you already have and what Steve suggested, you have got all of the data. If you could find someone with an original owner's manual, it would have a diagram of the dash with indications of what stuff does. It needs to be year specific for the high windshield models as they swapped some stuff at some point (choke and throttle iirc.) Of course, there are three other sources that were not mentioned. First is this forum - you can find a bunch of folks here that have a clue about these cars, second is the racer's forum at Risensonracing.com, and finally the Roadster e-mail lists. There are probably 3 lists, but only one is really active. Steve has the directions on how to join on one of the links. If no one online can answer it, you have found a really esoteric question!
Sid and Steve have most of the bases covered. I have a pile of print out on a lot things.
Dean at Fairlady Products has a pretty good Roadster Reader that he has compiled from own notes and step by step instructions for about $20. I have used it often and it is pretty Technical. Although like most Roadster books it does not cover EVERY single thing, but it does cover a whole lot more than the Chiltons.
Thank God for the forum!!!
The Dean's Reader audiance is not for the idiot at all. It assumes you have a good grasp of basic auto mechanics to fill in between the lines.
Thanks guys
I just bought those springs etc from Dean. If all that works out well I'll give him a buzz on the primer he put out. This may sound weird but I like reading this stuff on the dumper!
Okay admit it, some of you guys do too!
Right now there is so much going on with the car that I don't know where to start: Waiting for valves and springs, Dizzy is here and looks great (thanks Datsun Mike) Carbs arrived yesterday along with a valve cover, breather etc and I need to get hold of black duck to find out what year they are etc. I've got the harness in the engine compartment tagged and out, to the firewall, to start cleaning up the area for paint. I guess all the hydaulics on the firewall are next.
Okay-okay-you got me. I too have been known to read automotive literature in the crapper! Something about the atmosphere-naaaah! It just works out that way. And like Sid said, you can always ask us and we may collectively confuse the -ell out of you or maybe even help. There is no such thing as a dumb roadster question so do not be bashful.
