Electric Fuel Pump Location?

Thanks for the walkthrough Dave, my issue is that the 67 fuse "box" doesn't give me options like that....

I don't know much about the earlier fuse box only because I haven't seen one "live" but from the schematics the theory would be the same. Is there no "hot when the key is in the on position" lead? If there is, the theory is still the same.

I mounted mine under the trunk, with one bolt... after hardcutting the line with half a hacksaw blade.....

Well, that's tougher than the last one I did. Natone's car lost the fuel pump and the alternator in a downpour at a resturant 40 miles from the house at Watkins Glen. We did the fuel pump in the parking lot, luckilly a few other owners and a few umbrellas were present. Nathan drove 40 miles back on battery only and we did a GM swap in the driveway next morning.

On subject, wiring it the simple way. Safest/simplest way is to use the "+" coil wire to trigger a relay, relay runs the fuel pump from the battery via an inline fuse.

I would add a rollover/inertia switch where you can reach it, but it can be anywhere in the circuit.

i've set mine exactly like yours, except, no relay. Have a 2.5 amp fuse in line with the +coil........works lika a champ.
turn the key, hear the pump for a second or two and start first turn.
I ran the fuel line around the bottom of the radiator fan shroud and up the other side. Straight shot into the carbs.
What does the relay do? I don't have an engine driven pump but i have a spare lectric in the trunk.

The power for the fuel pump is fed through a relay and in use with an inertia switch (the ground side) power stops flowing when the inertia switch is tripped.

Jay, the relay is a magnetic switch. A tiny bit of power from the ignition pulls the switch contacts together to complete a circuit. The reason is to isolate the ignition from the electrical load of the fuel pump. As Jim said, the inertia switch breaks the circuit, ground side of the relay is a convenient spot.

As a related example, I do commercial fire alarm systems for a living. We use a small 24 volt DC relay that draws about 100 miliamps (0.1 amp) to switch a high amperage24 vvolt DC or 120 volt or 240 volt ac load . Keeps the heavy electrical load outside the fire panel.

A lot of the old pictures on this forum has disappeared. I´m interested in seeing rear mounted electric fuel pumps. Wondering where and how to cut the hard lines.

I put mine on the frame rail, ahead of the rear wheel. It's easily accessible, and easy to change out on the road if it breaks.

Carter inline rotary pump and its inline filter replace a portion of the flex line beyond the hard line at the passenger side frame rail. Power from ignition, through an inertial shock cutoff.

I have been running a Carter #4070 for over 10 years on front Right frame rail as a puller. Many have advised against it but it’s never failed.

Mine was in the same spot as devo originally, then moved further under the car and mounted to the floor to supply my swirl tank for the EFI pump. Most important is to know these are pusher pumps and not puller so they need to be close to the tank. The cheap ones I use do make some noise. Dave Premo mentions a Nissan pump he uses that is more expensive but very quiet.

Be prepared to cap your line when you cut it until it's hooked up...

Cool, thanks for the photo. Looks neat, but I think I´ll try to place it in the rear near the tank. I had the Carter GP4070 on my Z years ago, worked fine except it made some noise. Facet Red Top works well on the Z, quite a bit lower noise. I´ve got the Nismo electric pump that I was gonna try on the roadster, let´s see how that works. In Japan I saw the Hakos used two Nismo pumps in series, but I suspect that was just a trendy thing to do, as the stock L20A engines aren´t NEAR the capacity of a transistor U-shin Nismo fuel pump Looked great though.

Any photos of the rear mounting?
