Does your gas cap rust? What did you do?

I'm noticing that the gas tank cap rust inside. I saw a streak of
rust running into the tank. What have you guys done
to clean this up?

I can suggest you get a new cap if you can fix the one you already have.

Also you that stream of rust realy says that you need to do a fuel flush or get an additive cleanser to clean our the system.

You might want to check your fuel filter too for excess deposits.

A new but original cap would still have the same problem.
I see that caps for newer cars, are plastic or zinc plated metal
inside.

Miatas and Alfas have the same prob.

Well if you want the original cap replacement.... It will cost you.

I know Rod has one instock. He's asking close to $100.

A locking aftermarket is available that gows for around $30. However make sure any cap you buy isn't vacuum locking kind (air tight). You know the kind that goes "SWOOooooosh" sucking in air when you open the cap.

As I am told, our Roadster's mechanical fuel pumps don't run well with that kind of resistance in fuel flow. The stock fuel caps are not air tight and allow air to seep in just enough.

Side Note:
Personally I like the way our orginal caps look. If it would be to much of a body mod I kind of like to get one those Chrome Flip-Lock rapid fueling racing caps. Like the ones on a Shelby Cobra or aftermarket Miata Cap kit.

I think that Rod may be a little high on that gas cap price. Check with Dean, Dann, Ross, or Mike - or any of the other friendly Roadster vendors. I have seen them for about $40, but haven't paid attention to the price lately. You may also want to check with Nissan....
