My previously functioning fuel and temperature gauges stopped working. I checked connections at the voltage regulator but everything looks good. Is there something else it could be? Do these regulators fail? Maybe I should replace the terminal connections?

Re: Fuel/Temp voltage regulator
Only based on my experience, if both are failing it's very likely still at the regulator. I've heard they are expensive which has prompted some smart folks here to create an alternative or a fix... stay tuned, someone will answer!

Yes, these regulators do fail. Consider replacing with a modern one. I heard earlier VW bug ones work as well. There is a wiki article on building your own as well. I've built a few but mine was a different approach than the wiki.

Re: Fuel/Temp voltage regulator
I use an LM2596 5A DC-DC Step-Down converter, a $5 PC board-mounted electronic module about the size of the OEM pulsing bi-metallic regulator, whose steady output voltage is LED displayed and adjustable in a range that mimics the ‘average’ OEM regulator output, and also allows some ‘electronic tuning’ of fuel and temperature gauge indications.

Tech/Wiki has a nice DIY that I followed. I was lazy and just wired up without tucking into can. Works super! Check your ground on yours before moving on.
