Stroker Question
Since I found a broken piston, I decided to consider the stroker mod to my R16. Following the Tech Wiki page, I have a question. I have ordered the H20 crank from NISMO and H20 pistons. My question is, do I need to also order the H20 rods? Usually, with a longer stroke engine (chevys come to mind) you need longer rods, but the tech wiki does not say anything about that and I cannot find detailed information on differences between the R16 & H20 connecting rods. Any definitive help would be appreciated. Note: I am using my '70 5-main block and stock late model head.

Re: Stroker Question
Actually the rods are shorter since the crankshaft has more stroke with the same deck height.

Re: Stroker Question
Thanks David. So, does this mean that I can/should use the R16 rods? I know the H20 pistons are dished.

Re: Stroker Question
You need the h20 or U20 rods to go with the H20 or U20 pistons (rods and pistons of U20/H20 are same length and pin height). If you were to use the R16 rods you have to get custom pistons, VG30 pistons(?), or ??

Re: Stroker Question
You ordered an H20 crank from NISMO? Where? I didn't think they were available anymore. Hope you didn't get an H20-II by mistake.
66 stroker, almost done.

Re: Stroker Question
Thanks everyone. So I have my answer. I will be looking for rods. I have a PM for an option that I will follow up on.
Here is the crank I ordered. The part number is for the H20 and not the H20-II. I would not be surprised though if I get an email that says it is no longer available. Right now, it looks like everything is a go.

My friend owns a Nissan dealership and we did conform earlier this year that these are in fact still available

Re: Stroker Question
When you do a search of that part number 12200-E0700 it comes up with a H20-II. And the photos also show a 2.

Re: Stroker Question
I sure hope you are wrong Curtis (but I am not doubting you). I got this number from this website and the stroker tech wiki page. Also, http://www.311s.org/PDFs/forklift.pdf. I am not sure how one goes about making sure to get the correct part other than the part number from the OEM. I am confused...

Re: Stroker Question

Re: Stroker Question
From searching it almost looks like they reused the number which is weird. If it turns out it is the correct one I'll be in line for one.

Re: Stroker Question
Nissan dealers don’t usually take back special order parts if they are wrong. You order it by part number, it’s yours.
At least the Nissan H crank will be very good quality if correct, it’s one of the main reasons Nissans have such good reliability. The Chinese cast forklift cranks are junk.
Keep in mind the H20 oiling system (and R16) is greatly inferior to the U20. The H does very poorly at high rpm. That’s why the U20
survives so much better at high rpm. The U20 crank is a much better choice for over 5000 rpm. The H20 crank is fine under 5k and is lighter.
Unless you modify the oil system, lots of R and H engines wind up with #2 or 3 rods on the wrong side of the block with a bearing failure.

Re: Stroker Question
Well, I got a message that my H20 crankshaft from NISMO was cancelled, so Curtis was correct. Now I have H20 pistons and rings and no crankshaft. That is a bummer. Back to the drawing board.

Re: Stroker Question
Do you want a h20 crank or a u20 crank? We have both. I wouldn’t really recommend H20 pistons though for a R20 stroker. Your CR would be kinda low, so that’s giving up (almost) free hp and torque. The h20 pistons would be fine if you just want to burn regular gas and take the kids for ice cream. Depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
Oh yes, we have many rod choices as well. R,H,U,Alloy with ARP fasteners.
