HEY !! QUICK - BUT DUMB QUESTION ... On a Stock 1600 Do you HAVE to remove the drive shaft to pull the body form the frame ??


I have the car in mid air at the moment and I can't get the darn thing un couped ( body / frame ) and its raining !!!
HELP !!!

I don't think so on the Driveshaft. But yes on the brake/clutch lines and hoses at the front. Did you get all body mounting bolts out? I think there are 10?

Well after the pouring rain cooled off my temper, I managed with minimal damage to separate the body from the chassis.
~~~. The flipping rear bumper was the hang up ~~. Go figure.

The front bumper was already off, but not the rear. As I attempted to equally fit the body, the rear duck tailed seam weld the protrudes rearward for about 1 inch , hooked itself under the top lip of the rear bumper a (as the bumper is BOLTED TO THE Chassis )😱.

When the body was raised, SO was the BUTT of the car🤣
So I think another ‘Step’ in the instructions is needed.

Take you Bleedin’ Bumpers Off! Before ya lift the car - Speedy!!

Just keep lifting, sooner or later the frame will fall out.

I thought that was only for East Coast cars, the rust can only hold on for so long, eventually they will separate, just not likely where you want it too!

Well the plan was to NOT Fubar the car in a drop 😜.

The body is now in it’s wood cradle as per the blue print design in the Tech topics. But the the blue prints calls for “5 2x6x8”. Should be actually “6 “ planks Therefore a last minute run to Lowe’s 😤

Just built my cradle tonight and purchased 6 2x6x8 per advice above, and it’s spot on with almost no wood waste. If you don’t buy 6 you’ll be making a second trip. Thanks! Took me about 3 hours to cut and assemble by myself, with 3” poly caster wheels added. About $150 in supplies from Lowes.

How are you progressing, i recently started on my 68 2000.
Having a good time just cleaning things up before getting the frame sent out.

My frame was media blasted and had a HEAVY coat of urethane black pumped on to it.
Rebuilt the brakes, converted the fronts to the Volvo rotors and calibers using the BLUEHANDS kit form Pa.

The 1600 is getting rebuilt ( #1 had a gauge in the cyld wall and had lost compression) and the trans will be a rebuilt SRL 2000 5 speed .

The body is perched wooden cradle and we are attempting to get the front fenders in good enough shape to attempt to make fiberglass molds /fenders.

But the weather here is nutz at the moment

I’m moving rather slow, just got the front end all disassembled and boxed ready to blast and paint next week.
Next, the rear end removal. Taking it slow and taking a boat load of pictures.
Looking for a place to have the frame cleaned and painted here in Ft Worth, TX

OH Baby !!

Hope you have pictures and identified each of the front control arm alignmnet shimms.? I just happened to take Iphone pics of the whole hot mess before I clean the parts. Althought the front end will have to be re aligned later.

The left springs had a butt load of rust and crud between them. make sure to order up a set of the plastic shimms that go between the leaves now !! so when you reassemble them - they don't squeak or groan
I took close up photos of most of the bit I disassembled - getting old and can't remember where the bits go....

After you have taken way more pictures than you need start over and take even more pictures. There will always be those few items that you didn’t get a picture of, or you didn’t shoot it from the right angle.

My IPHONE is jammed with PHOTOS and Videos of the pre disassembly of the car, but I'm still missing photos of the various fuel line and brake line runs along the passenger side frame rail and up online the fire wall.

I have not been able to locate photos on the web showing the runs.. How I missed that_ I D K (Dummy me)
It's "warmer" today , so out to the Garage !!
