Ive heard some conflicting info when it comes to properly torquing down the front wheel bearings, so before I go drive around and destroy these new ones, can someone confirm the correct method/ torque spec & procedure

anyone confirm this info??? Id like to get this done ASAP so I can drive the car around... went and bought the bigass socket for it today.

- Wheel bearing nut - 4.5-4.7kg/m (32.5-34ft/lb.)

tighten until snug then back off 1/8 turn or until cotter pin fits. I usually just snug it up and back off until you can put the cotter pin in place

Google "how to adjust front wheel bearings" and you will get lots of info. Condense all the info down to a workable method.
My method is to tighten the nut while spinning the wheel. Once the bearing is tight, I try to find the balance between free spinning and no play while aligning the cotter pin holes.

Thanks Bob, but I guess this is exclusively for stupid questions because a well written one with the research done gets ignored and "Google it," is the answer I get. I dont want lots of info, I am asking how it is specifically done for the Roadster. Ive gotten a lot of general and scattered advice. Im trying to make sure I do it right the first time. I see others asking stupid questions and get tons of help...WTH

In the several times I've removed the front hubs and put them back on I have never torqued it. Turned the nut down until it doesn't want to spin and then back it off just enough to free it up but not loose. It turns but not so it spins like hell. Kind of like it has just a little drag.

Read the second part of my post. The reason there are so many different methods is because it's pretty hard to screw up, only two ways - too tight or too loose.

I like to tighten it down tight to set the bearings and then back it off until it turns freely but not loose. You kinda have to feel it.Let the force be with you.

didn't someone (JT68?) have some sort of spacers for wheel bearings that you can just tighten up and it works?

Sorry for my little outburst, I was frustrated with the A's getting hammered by the Yankees and I was a bit annoyed that I couldnt get an answer to my question. The method everyone describes is essentially what I did, but I was told there was a torque spec, didnt believe it and then saw it in the wiki it confused me even more... I even went out and bought a bigass socket so I could use my torque wrench.... good thing I kept the receipt for it

I hear ya Simon. I've read all sort of methods...some must be intended for different bearings or a different setup.
The tighten until it's snug and then loosen until the wheel turns easily but not spins freely is the way I've always gone back to.
