Please Help!!!

I'm a dead man, guys...After pressure washing the engine bay on the roadster I must have knocked loose a big chunk of tar. I got it on the bottom of my foot and proceeded to walk into almost every carpeted room in the house. I tried blaming it on the cat but my girlfriend doesn't buy it!

Has anyone successfully removed tar or really heavy grease from a rug before? If so, what magic did you use to save your life?

Dave,

Lighter fluid! Rosignal like you use to fill up a zippo lighter works like a charm!

Step 1: Apply Lighter Fluid
Step 2: Light it
Step 3: Blame the cat
Step 4: Save the cat (if desired) - assuming the car is already out of the garage and safely down the driveway...

Good Luck Dave! TR

Bring in the specialist... get the mobile carpet cleaner out to the house, ASAP. But, since you posted it at 3PM and it is now 11PM it might be already to late.

Take all the blame, verbally denegrate yourself in front of her and swear you'll fix it before you start working on the car again. And, aplogize and ask for forgiveness - a lot.

Buy "A LOT" of rags to clean. Tar & Bug cleanser on a rag works really good to get the major portion of it. Don't let is get into the padding. Borrow/Rent a steam cleaner and that should do the trick to get out the remant stain and tar cleanser smell.

I'm happy to report I did not need to sleep in my makeshift camp site out in the garage last night. Russell's lighter fluid trick worked great and I was allowed back in the house...Without my shoes on!

Thanks guys! :D
