Post by FairladyNor »

Fair Ladies and Gentlemen, Connoisseurs of the marque

Lets put all this Roadster / Fairlady knowledge into play and have a
litle quiz.

I have sacannen most Datsun Roadster pages on the net and read all the books i have been able to get my hands on, then something strange appears that i have never seen.

Below is a link to a picture. Have a look and tell us what you think this is. :?: How many are are made of this type? and how many are running today?
http://www.311s.org/PublicPics/MysteryRoadster.jpg

What i can tell you is that the instrumentation is as delivered from factory.
The terrible wood plastic veneer dash is not original,The blue lamp (on the far left) may be a requirement from the first country this car was registered. But the rest.... Oh yess all from factory.

If you have trouble seing the pic, here is some details:
Tacometer goes to 8000 with red-line starting at 7000.
Speedo goes to 240km/h!!!!
Flat dash, combined instruments.
And.. this car has 34042 km (22000 miles) on the meter (beleived to be original)

Note! I am +9hrs of PST so answers may take some time.
Look back for updates.

Appears to be a 67.5 (except for the blue light)...

From what I know, that is a 67.5 horn button and gauges. The US model came with a 140MPH speedo which is about the same as your KPH...That is the most collectible of roadsters (arguably!)...

Congratulations! If the speedo and tach are in fact the original to the car, you have found a European market SRL311. The VIN should be between SRL311-00001 and SRL311-01000. If you got to http://www.datsun.org, go to the registry and look at SRL311-00596 and you will find another example. That car is not 100% right. The reflectors appear to be off of a 1970 model, the visors should not be red, and there is an extra stalk of some kind on the steering column. Also the driver's side mirror appears to have been relocated higher on the door. It is a fantastic looking car though! (I just noticed that the reverse light is not one that I recognize. All of those things having been said, I am speaking from knowledge of US cars - there is very little documentation of what the European cars had, so I could be out to lunch.)

That is a great find! Post pics of the car somewhere!!

I agree with Sid. From first glance, it looks as though you have located a 1967.5 2000. Check the VIN of the car off of the plate located on the passenger side rear of the engine compartment at the firewall.

Check the engine number. You can find the block number right near #2 spark plug. If it is a U20-00xxx numbered block then you probably have a genuine car.

I am restoring a 1967.5 2000 right now and would like to converse with you about your car. Send me some email and congrats on your find!

First of all this is not my car. :(

And yes this is an original 167.5 2000 Solex car with The orig Solex carbs on it , the large 7.2 litre alu oil pan. And all the other extras. :)

The VIN is SRL0006XX somthing and i dont remember the engine number but it is a match (will get it soon)

The clue here is . We have not found any documentation that the 67.5 2000 was delivered in Europe or to any other country in eurospec. By eurospec i mean speedo that is set to 240Km/h Yellow aft top light etc.
And never racing (Solex) equipped.

As far as we can trace the car this is one of only two made in this special configuration. Both cars are running ( The other is roadgoing in Netherlands)

As far as we know these cars was shiped to Switzerland for pomotional purposes. This car was last registered in Germany in 1978 and hav amaisingly 36042km on the meter (22000 miles)
The seats are just as new and the action in the gearshift is ..... tight as a .....

Also, the blue lamp is a marker for full light. It is not impossible that this was required in Switzerland or Germany in the 60's so that it had to be aftermounted.

On vacation in Germany the owner spotted the white Roadster in a used car shop and after a short time brought it to Norway. It has been here now since May and will be undergoing a full frameoff resto starting this fall. It is amaisingly rustfree to be an north european car.
The value is difficult to set but i beleive that the owner did a good trade.

The SRL that SID mention may well be the other car (We will check it out)
I do not have any good pics of it but will talk to thw owner to get him to post some pics and some more info.
Ill also fwd the e-mail addr to you who ask.

So thats the story. It nice with these small happy stories now and then.
Any other q. Post away.

I have seen at least two different documents that show that the Roadster was advertised for sale in France. The parts book also speaks to specific parts for France (air cleaners for the Solex carb version for example). The ads both showed a white car by the way....

From what I understand, the SU carbs were a North America item on the 2000s since it was difficult to get the Solex carbs to meet emissions standards. As I understand it, all Aussie 2000s were made with the Solex carbs as were all other non US and Canada market cars.

That is a neat find!!

The reason that we are getting excited about your car is beacause or its marquee and rarity. The 1967.5 2000 was the first Nissan vehicle with a 5 speed transmission and OHC engine. All Datsun Roadsters are rare, but the 67.5 is truly rare as it was only made from March to September of 1967.

The one in the Netherlands is known. I am sure you have checked out www.datsun.org. More info about 67.5 20000s than you can shake a stick at. It's a great resource.

Post pics and register the car both here at 311s.org and datsun.org

Congrats to your friend!

The 2nd rarest is the 1970 2000 becuase of the producition numbers and the end of family line.

Comparing the 2, the 67.5 looks a lot nicer and is able to upgrade to a modern stereo.
