Craig Hoopers Fender Flairs

Does anyone know if Craig Hooper is using the Japco front fenders and rear fender flairs? I think the fenders look cool. My car will have a very similar paint job, but a little darker grey (no I'm not trying to copy him, I had the color picked way before I saw a picture of his car) .

I do not know this for a fact but I think he did it himself or had it done to a pair of stock fenders. They sure look aggressive and fit his car very well.

I actually asked Gordan Glasgow about the flairs just last week. I asked becuase Hoop doesn't have an email address listed on the sight. They are both members of the U20-Bombers.

Gordan says Hoops' flares were done by the previous owner.

A little FYI... I want the flairs too. Did your notice that Hoop's flairs don't perfectly match. The ones in the back (like a Cobra) are different from the front (pseudo Cobra).

Let me know on how you do on your hunt... I would like the information for myself.

I gave up looking. I thought it would be cool, but I don't have the time to do it my self. I thought they were fiberglass fenders, but aparently they arn't. I was looking at the Japco fenders but I have been told they don't hold up well outside of a track. (I'm thinking about the hood and trunk lid however, light weight is the right weight

) I wanted to run larger tires than a 195/60 but didn't think they would fit until a friend showed up with 205/55-15s on his car. The tires rub every once in a while but very lightly. driven hard it might be another story.

I did some pricing in my area. It run about 14-17 hours to do the fender flares in metal. The guy I talked to in W. Sacramento charges $35/hr. That will come to about $800 parts and labor.

The nice thing is that he let me have templates.

I not flaring the Roadser till I get the knockoff rims to reerence the extent of the flare. I'm looking at least a year away.

I don't know... My undrstanding is the the Japco are not suitable for daily driving at all.

That is why I did my estimate for metal.

Garry's Flairs were done by some company in Georgia - I asked him about it as I need to flair my rear fenders. They are fiberglass but not Japco. I don't know for sure but Mike Kerr had a project car some time ago that had rear flairs exactly like those on Craigs car. I assumed it was the same car. Mike indicated on his web site that it was an abandoned customers project. Don't know for sure if he did the flairs or had them done but they were steel and looked just like those on Craigs car.

At one time, Roadster Restoration had a 67.5 with similar flares done in steel....

Here is another thought. Look at stock cars as you are driving. If you see one that has the flares that you like, go to the junk yard and get the flares cut of. Then you can open up the fenders and graft on the flares. Porsche 911 flares come to mind as a candidate if you want big bubble flares. You can also buy them from Porsche parts suppliers. If you get a Tweeks catalog, the 930 rear quarter extensions are $99 each. Or you can get the full turbo flare panels for $729.99 for all 4. The turbo rear flares individually are $199 each. 930 front flares are $199 each.

Keep in mind that Tweeks is not the cheapest place to get these. If you check around, you can find lower prices. If you can find a car that burned, or was in an accident, you may be able to get the flares cut off for less.

The front flares should work fine, but there would need to be some additional mods for the rears due to the way the Porsche fenders are shaped. By using the sheet metal flares, it will reduce the fabrication time a LOT.

That is a pretty good idea. My buddy and I can easyly cut and graph the sheetmetal on with a cutter and welder (MIG, TIG, or Arc).

Then send to a very nice body shop to smooth it out like glass. That could definitely save a couple bucks in labor and parts.

They hard part is finding the right donor candidates...

I've decided to go by way of steel for my flairs. I talked to other non-Roadster enthusiats and they convienced me.

Anyways, hey what do you guys think of these fiberglass MG fender flairs? Shouldn't take much to mod and fit onto a Roadster.

They come as a full 4 inch protrusion from the body line. It is definitely more than enough depth to dial down to a custom flair. they're good for daily driver use - so they said.

Roly said they're $425 for the set.

Hey, I thought Hoop had a 69? That dash looks nothing like a 69. Come to think of it... It doesn't look like any Roadster dash. Must be a custom job. You think with all the time and effort, he'd put in a radio.
