Mounting tabs for leaf spring

Post by Guest »

Awhile back when I was installing the comp leaf springs I was amazed at the front mount point on the frame. It's just 2 tabs with a bolt that goes through. I was wondering if this is an area of high stress, and are the tabs prone to breaking?
Is there a way to reinforce this section by welding/other means?

RE:Rear Leaf Tabs

Post by S Allen »

Alvin,

I have never seen or heard of any problems with the front mounting tabs for the leaf springs. They are a lot more heavy duty than you think. I have seen the rear axle brace bracket broken on a couple of roadsters but that is a different stress altogether. I would not loose any sleep over the front leaf spring mounting points as they are more than adequate to perform their job.

Alvin I got the same thing. Don't know why or how...

I didn't think much of it. If we are talking about the same thing, I just bent the thing back into original position.

I'm gonna worry about it if it gets bent up again.
