Are your plates original?
I was trying verify if the my plates on my Roadster are the original issues when it was bought off the car lot...
I found this site that has some information.
http://www.15q.net/
I also found on EBay that you can buy used original issue plate from the any state and any year...
http://search-desc.ebay.com/ws/search/S ... sicSearch=
Pretty cool, I thought maybe somebody would find this info usefull.
You know to get those last little details - just right...

BTW...
If you found a car that has not been registrered in 10 years you are in luck!
Because the car no longer exists in California DMV records. I dunno about the other states and countries.
If so, you can go and register the car without a pink and only the signed purchase agreement , you can buy the correct plates on EBay BEFORE registering it at the DMV.
If it is after DMV registration, it is to late. Your stuck with the plate that are on it or get the new issue plates...

My car had the original plates (black and yellow) and had not been registered since '72. The CA DMV would not allow me to keep them because there is some rule about plates/car being from 62 or before in order to be able to use what they call a "vintage" plate. I had just restored the plates and they were beautiful. They cut them up while I asked why...
I'm thinking of getting custom plates...Maybe:
IH8DMV

Sorry Travis, and DatJunky... You guys got jacked by an uninformed dmv-natzi state employee (maybe the same one). As another state worker I apologize. It really bugs me when I run across dumbazz that don't know there own business.
Sharing more info...
For those (like myself) who would rather have somebdy restore those plates I found a few on the web. I have yet to try any of these guys. But, I'm leaning towards darryl since he has had some offsite recommendations and mine are a little banged up.

To Minh -- DMV
Minh, I'm also in the Sacto area, maybe you can give me some pointer. I just bought my first 68 1600 roadster. A bit high and
sort of citrus, i mean, a lemon in nature. And I registered last week
Aug. 4, I was really looking for the CA black plate but found out
that I could not do such thing with this 68 year. Still, I came up
with several stubborn idea. One is to make or order one from
a plate specialist like Daryl in Penn., or make it (cheaper option
I think) in Thailand-- I think they can do it, been there several times.
And whenever I pulled over, someone suggested that all I have to
say is "I'm going to a car show, sorry officer." He said it worked for
him for 4 years and counting. But just in case, I have to find out
how much the ticket is for having an illegal plate.
Hey, shoot me an email sometime if you get to read this. I still don't know much about roadster. bespaume@hotmail

So now, there are 2 of you doing the resto of the same exact car. The one I sold him has the original black plates.
My 69 has the original Blue plates.
I'll send you a Word document of the same info I sent him. He is a newbi like you too.

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

Mid 1969.
These early blue and yellow have the 3 digit numbers and 3 letter alphas on opposite sides compared to the black and yellow.
More details in this link:

I would prefer the black and yellow. However, since I am painting it the 1995 Nissan Cobalt Blue the blue and yellow looks better.
If I was to paint it the silver, I would be busting my brain to finagle the legality issues to own the black and yellow one on EBay.
