LSD
Sorry Alvin but the LSD is indeed NLA. I have heard rumors that they are still around in Japan, but you need to find one. All the parts are still stocked, but the main H190 assembly is not. You can start looking in Junkyards for Datsun trucks with them, I think any early to mid '70s Datsun truck with a live axel used a H190 Diff. If you find one that appears to lock, get it. The last LSD NISMO had is on Dan Philbin's other car. I was LUCKY to find mine, and its cool.

A place to start for the Japanese LSD is on an earlier Post.

There is a non-Nissan options for that LSD... Timwhite did some snooping and Stickerman guestimated that a RX7's 3.9:1 and 4.076:1 LSD could work. The RX7 is a bit wider, so it would need to be shortened. The bonus would be rear disk brakes. No confirmation yet.

I'm not sure of the lockup tension but I will look it up. As far as the way it drives, with my setup it seems to have lessened the oversteering tendecy slightly. I still have a car that will bite you if one is not very carefull. It is however fun in an empty parkinglot
. As far as racing goes at Shasta, I will suck due to a total lack of experiance. This does not mean that it won't do well in my friends hands (should he decide that he wants to give it a try.) The car will be seen at autoXs off and on throughout the summer however.

Limited slips
Here's some more info on the Limited Slips

As far as specs, they can be anywhere from no lock-up to fully locked depending on how worn out or tightly shimmed they are. IIRC the breakaway torque spec is 45 ft lbs but general consensus for a CSP autocross car (225 R compound tires) is 60-80ft-lbs. These are Salisbury type LSD's and thus need to be rebuilt periodically - the breakaway torque decreases over time. Parts are NOT available for all of the LSD units. The late ones use the same disks and plates as the R200 LSD and are available but the early stuff is getting very scarce. Parts are also expensive ($20-$30/friction plate and there are up to 12 of 'em)
You generally don't want to run a spool or a welded diff on the street. you definitly don't want one for autocross. There are detroit lockers that were made for the pickup's. I think these are still available from Nismo. They too don't work well for Autocross.
Personally, as scarce as these parts are getting I've come to believe that only folks who are (or are planning) to compete with their cars should have these parts. You need an LSD to be competitive in autocross at a national level. You don't need one to have lot's of fun at an autocross and still beat quite a few people in "that old car" or to just blast around on the street. As stated above, for the money you can make many more significant mods like a seperate set of race wheels/tires which will make more differance in you lap times than the diff will anyway. The most important investment is getting out there and racing. Seat time is the best way to go faster so don't worry about getting a car set up perfectly before you take it to an autocross. Just make sure nothing will fall off of it. My first autocross was on a stock suspension with new falkens and I beat a 930 turbo by a tenth. If you've got to have an LSD, prepare to spend a lot of time looking and have the cash ready to cough up when the opportunity presents itself.

Adding to Brian's post...
You might want to consider the rarity of replacement parts if a piece of your LSD goes out. What then; you know? Expect a lot of down time if cash is not available.
A long term and fiscal choice is something that is still has parts in abundance or still manufactured.

LSDs
When I last checked, NISMO still had parts. I have been thinking about stocking up, I just don't have room to stockpile stuff. I have no idea what the breakaway point is on my LSD, I didn't set it up, but the guy who did was planning on roadracing with it. I can leave a nice pair of rubber strips on the ground though. I does tend to fish tail when doing a long burnout.

Re: LSDs
The last add I checked at Orchard (OSH) had a (4-wide x 7-deep x ~6 high) shed for $179 that fits to the side of the house. That that the information would be usefull to you.SLOroadster wrote:When I last checked, NISMO still had parts. I have been thinking about stocking up, I just don't have room to stockpile stuff. Can and independent suspension differential be made into a solid axle?
I would think this would be easier than making a solid into an independant. By placing the drive shaft in a solid shaft and removing all the joints.
I ask because 1st I'm clueless about this and 2nd a LSD from 88-92 Cressida, 87-92 Supra MkIII or has:
1. 4 x 4.5 lugs
2. Cheap: A new JDM Torsen T1 Helical Gear LSD can be got without drive gears for $295. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 2466178040 A used OEM one can be had from $50 to $200.
3. The optional drive gears come in 3.9, 3.7, 3.5 (rare), and 4.3.
4. The Supra is a much, very heavy car, so it can definitely stand up to what a Roadster will ask of it.
Draw back... it comes in a independent rear suspension. So the pumkin will need to be made into a solid axle.

Somewhere in my stash of info, I have the information for a company that sells new LSD units for the H190 in trucks. The good news is that they are fairly cheap at $399 (OK, I should say relatively because that is a lot of money for a gee whiz thing), but the bad news is that they are for the bigger axles. That means that you would need to get 200SX or Truck axles and get them modified to work. If you were going through that trouble, it would be easier to just get the Mazda rear end and have it shortened to fit, put the Roadster rear end in the bowels of the garage (for the future when it just HAS to be stock) and go have fun with the 4 wheel disc brakes you ended up with.....
