Recommended chrome shop?

Post by ambradley »

Anyone have a recommendation for a shop? Anywhere from the Bay Area to Sacramento, so long as the work is good, and most importantly the price reasonable. Looking for places you've used and where happy with. I think it's time to replate my car's chrome and understand it can cost quite a bit.

RE:Chrome Shops

Post by S Allen »

There are not many local chrome shops left due to the stringent EPA requirements. There is a chrome shop in Richmond that does excellent work but I have no idea what they charge. A friend had many of the bits for her car rechromed with them. I can ask her what they charged but it is not going to be cheap or reasonable. The last time I had a front bumper rechromed it was around $200.00 . I am powder coating every thing on my '65, SR20 swap. I had my Z chrome done in black and it is holding up well and still looks good. I know that is not what you want to do but chrome is way too exspensive for me.

Maybe we should put together a trip to Mexico. No EPA down there, and it's cheap too. I've heardv that alot of hotrodders go this route, because the quality is better. I think they still use Mercury, or some other environmental nasty, which makes the chrome good and thick!

I'm not against shipping them to Mexico if it's that much cheaper. Anyone know how to find a reputable shop in Mexico? :)

There is this shop in Lodi that plan on using that does good work. I was refered to him by a Harley Davidsan guy that makes custom motorcycle rims.

The chromers also do pickup and delivery. No charge.

I will get their name and number for you. Forgot where I left it.
When you call them ask if they work with any freind you know that has a shop. They give a 30% reduction for shops.

If your part of a group of guys needing chroming they will give you the same deal however require a single person and address for payment, drop and pickup

Thanks, Minh! Hey, you're really close to me, let's do this together! I need to have bumpers from another car rechromed too, so it'll be like a group buy.

Adam and Minh - I also have a bunch of stuff that needs chrome. Let me know what they quote and we'll see if we can get a discount on the added quantity...TR

Wilton and Elk Grove are right next to each other; Santa Rosa is a couple of hours away, and all are within reasonable proximity to Lodi, so I'd be willing to pick up all the parts and deliver them to the shop. For Southern California, you'd have to ship them up here first.

Seriously, I'm willing to do it, especially if you're chipping in for gas! I'll have to take the minivan instead of the Roadster to pick up the parts... May make a day of it with the wife. :-)

As soon as I get the shop's contact info, I'll make the call and see what kind of price we're talking about.

Which shop are you planning on using?

I have found this info so far:

Electro Forming Co. in Richmond: 510-237-4988. I think these guys are the most well known place in the greater bay area. I think Mike Young uses these guys, he has mentioned a plating place in Richmond a few times.

High Lustre Metal Finishing/ Mike Leonard 2466 American Ave.,
Hayward, CA 94545 Tel: 510-785-0196. I have never heard of these guys, but the person that recommeded them said they do great prep and produce beautiful finish product. They have a minimum of $100.

I also got a number for a guy that makes regular trips to mexico for re-chroming needs. If anybody would like that number, please PM me

Hope this helps more than confuses things

Whoa...

Sorry if I don't have the answer today, I see some of us are interested. I'll get on relocating that piece of paper today or contacting that HD rim guy again.
