The black cloud of doom strikes again. This time its the LSD

Re: lsd
$1100 is a damn good price for a 4.63 LSD! That gear set alone could command as much as $500 if it's in good shape. The issue is that most racers can't legally use a non-stock carrier so, although you can swap a ford or other LS axle into the roadster, racers can't. That's why I cringe when I see the really rare race parts on street driven cars. I really need another 4.11 gear set but they are hard to find.alving wrote:Good point Alexi. I think it can be done for even less than $1500toolsnob wrote: Hell for $1500 I could have a custom 8" ford rearend made with disc brakes and LSD with parts a plenty at any autoparts store.

Will, the 4.11 is the ticket for Auto-x. If it was legal, I'd run the 4.38 (I did run it until I found my 4.11 last year)

I believe a there was an older Mustangs that came with a solid rear with 4x4.5 lug pattern. Now its only 2/3.

The 4 lug mustangs that were 4x4.5 were the early body mustangs with the 6 cylinder. The diff is NOT a performance piece. I don't recall the designation, but it is smaller than an 8 inch unit. It would not survive with healthy power being put through it. Good try though!

When I was pulling my R16 regularly, I used a come-along and doubled up 2x4s in the garage rafters. Some angle iron over the top edges of the 2x4s and a chain over that to hook the come along to. It's not as smooth operating as a lift, but it got the job done and didn't cost us anything as we already had the stuff hanging around. The angle came from an old bed frame. I don't remember how many times I pulled the engine/trans, but there was never a problem, and I did the pulling by myself.67 1/2 1600 wrote:Will,
The trans is stuck in 3rd again, and I think i am going to have to take the 4spd out of the 66, and put it in the 67.5. The problem is, I have to take out 2 motors, but I have no cherry picker! I dont know how im going to pull this stunt.

You don't really need a cherry picker, as there are almost always alternatives.

I have come into another conclusion! My Dad thinks it might be because it is not moving, and all the gear oil is down. I also think that he is right because when we pushed it in gear for about 10-15 feet, I was able to shift it out, probably because the oil was moving inside??? And since the car has not moved that might be a cause??? So im guessing just a little pushing, and I might not have to pull the whole motor out. Do you think thats a possibility? That it is stuck in 3rd because the trans fluid is not circulating since it has not been moved????
