Window turns hard

Post by Revbang »

My passenger side window turns up and down too hard. So hard that a previous owner broke off the knob on the handle. I have the door panel off and wonder if there is a particular part that breaks or wears. It looks all OK. Is there a particular lubricant that I can use to ease it up a bit? Thanks, Mark

I like white lithium grease. It is available in an aerosol, so that makes it easy. Lubricate the gear, the shaft, the rollers and anything else that you can get to. Help the window go up with one hand while you crank with the other. Do that several times and it should loosen up.

Best of luck!

Another thing you might want to check are the tracks and the felt guides that go in them. If one of the tracks is even a bit loose it will cause you all kinds of problems. They are not that hard to take out for a refurbish if need be.

The felt. Check the felt. (the fuzzies inside the rubber tracks) Almost all the varipus make cars I've fixed this on the felt was large source of the problem. 2nd was lubrication.

BTW: Use the lithium spray lube to the garage door joints with it too. It makes for a much quiter garage door closing and opening.
