Re-visiting this subject...I picked up an H20 NISMO crank recently (brand new in the box!). In researching various posts in this poll and other areas of the 311s site, I see comments about cams as part of an R16 stroker project. Many mention choosing a mild "street cam" as part of their projects. Dean has this offering "Performance #3 - R16 motor & 2000 Push rod Stroker - 430 Lift at the valve / 276 Duration. Order by PART#1497ACS". Some threads suggest lift and duration ranges for a good "street cam", and this one falls right in there. Anyone use this cam (or something similar) in their builds, and what was your experience?

Congrats on the find.
Regarding the cam....
My understanding is that the cam is part of the whole. In other words, intake, compression, exhaust, intended useage, gearing are all parts of the program as well as idle charistics and your expectations for how the engine is to perform.
A lumpy idle and poor off idle performance with strong pull from 5500 to 7500 might be fine for some but, obviously not others.
Trust me, I'm an old guy who has run hi lift long duration/overlap cams in V8 street cars....not fun.
For starters, what piston/rods are you planning on running? Are you going to use a stock head or maybe you've got one that's been cut too far to use on an R16? What trans will you use and what rear end? Are you autocorssing the car or is an occasional driver? Webers or SUs?

Stock R16 head - will have to get a read on the height of it; I had the current R16 re-built about 18 years ago and I don't believe they cut it, just new valve seats, guides, seals.
Tranny - currently have the 1600 4-speed...considering a U20 5-speed, if I could get my hands on one. I know...if I've got the engine out swap the tranny at the same time, and the clutch...a slippery slope there.
Rear end - my stock R16; no plans there
Autocrossing or occasional driver - definitely an occasional driver....no autocross or track in mind.
Webers or SUs - currently my stock R16 SUs...but the Webers are a possibility.
Now the other items on the list of "probably will do"...EI dizzy (East Coast Roadsters), ceramic R16 header, 2" exhaust.
The R16 is running great (only a few thousand miles since the re-build). Just looking to kick up the HP and torque and get a bit more zip into the driving experience, and I'm sure a "mild-mannered" stroker will do that for me.

Youll need to move quite a bit more air/fuel thru the carbs. If it were me, Id go with the cam you are looking at. Id also lighten the flywheel and talk to one of the carb guys about needles for the carbs. Id port match the head but not do any work on the ports or combustion chamber unless theres an obvious rough spot and then only to smooth, not reshape.
Im sure others with more experience than I will offer input too.
You will be happy with the torque bump as much as the hp gain.
