I solved the firewall flex/cracking issue on my 64 1500 clutch without a brace. I first had a friend mig weld the crack up and grind it smooth. Next, I had him weld the top lip of the mounting “stud” plate under the dash to the top of the sill that holds the hood latch. It has a flat spot on it that was perfect for welding. So far it’s as solid as a rock.
NOTE: This was done with the instruments and interior removed before reassembly and painting.
