Caliper Upgrade, Tube vs Passage
Stock brakes have the crossover tube. For an upgrade does the inside passage offer much of an advantage?

Re: Caliper Upgrade, Tube vs Passage
I'd say no. You still have a potential leak point. About the only thing you will gain is a potentially lighter brake caliper (That may or may not flex more) and possibly more brake pad availability.
That said, I'm tempted to try some of the aftermarket Dunlop Mk2 calipers for Jaguars. They should bolt up to the stock frames, but should be lighter and less prone to rusting since they are made from CNC'd aluminum.

Curtis-
Are you talking about stock calipers or a Volvo conversion?
I don't know about the stock calipers but I believe the cross drilled Volvos have some benefit.
Not only are you eliminating the two connections of the feed tube (and it's potential leaks, you eliminate the need for the adapter/feed block that requires more connections points. Some have had issues with leaks at the adapter block so it seems wise to eliminate the potential trouble. Fewer parts, one less thing to buy.
I really like Will's idea. An aluminum caliper with the vented Altima rotor would be much more modern and probably loose 10 lb per wheel and still fit most 14" wheels.

Okay, the cat's out of the bag. I'm going Jaguar. They are offered both with the tube and without. And no adapter needed, they bolt right on.

Re: Caliper Upgrade, Tube vs Passage
So here is a Datsun caliper and Jaguar. Spacing is the same, pipe threads the same, even the little bolts that hold on the cylinder are the same.
The upgrade with the Wilwood caliper needs an adapter.

The reduced weight of the Jaguar caliper is nice. Jag guys often buy Datsun caliper packs because they are cheaper though.

Re: Caliper Upgrade, Tube vs Passage
So can we just machine off the stock calipers to match these?

Now go looking for the actual hydraulic cylinders that are made aftermarket for Jags. That is what I was talking about. I found a few awhile back that looked very interesting, but I don't have the links on this computer. Try searching Jaguar XKE brake calipers and you might find them.

There are several available. Put in jaguar e type front brake upgrade. None of them are cheap. Lowest I found is just over $500.SLOroadster wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 2:41 pmNow go looking for the actual hydraulic cylinders that are made aftermarket for Jags. That is what I was talking about. How much is a set of Wilwoods, or any other aftermarket brake calipers? I'd guess they are more.Curtis wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 3:05 pmThere are several available.
