what after market radio will fit in my 1970 roadster ?

virtually anything, depending where you put it. iii'd just check with a few local audio stores to see what they have.

On the other hand, I know of none that will fit the small stock space and look close to correct.

I'd suggest using modern technology for the radio! Keep your stock radio in place for looks and get a small Bluetooth amplifier. Use a smartphone or other device to stream your music.

That’s what I did, although I’m not using new equipment. I had some of my old Alpine stuff from 20 years ago to use. Amp in the passenger footwell and a pair of component speakers in the sides behind the seats. I just plug my phone into the amp input with a headphone to rca adapter and go.

There are lots of solutions but given the vertical mount and face as well as the small space available next to and behind the radio, I know of nothing that simply bolts in.
I have a vintage cassette stereo in my 68 and a Nissan amfm sterel radio like in the Wiki in the 69
Both work fine.
