Well, they worked, and sort of fit the feel of the car. I guess thats something I'll have to address when it comes time to work on sheet metal

Here is how I repaired a broken door limiter bracket on Project Unicorn:

Here is what I started with-- the door limiter bracket had ripped out of the door, allowing it to over extend-- in addition to that, the retainer clip in the A-pillar was broken, and for bonus fun, the entire A-pillar was filled with dog food that some sort of rodent had squirreled away:

Image

Once all the dog food was vacuumed out of the A-pillar, I could start to access the damage. The door was removed for paint, and we rebuilt and welded on the retainer bracket-- a very straight forward repair. How I was going to get the clip into the A-pillar took a little time to figure out...

First, I went to this image-- this is a shot of an A-pillar that I replaced on my wife's 1500 project-- I wanted to see how Datsun installed the clip on inside of the panel-- once we saw that, I just needed a parts car:

Image

Fortunately, Eric Straw had a roadster parts car and I was able to cut open an A-pillar to get the retainer clip out and to figure out how I was going to re-attach it:

These are riveted in from the factory, and with the door now back in place, that would not be possible to reinstall in that fashion. After looking at it for awhile, I drilled out the rivets so I could use normal fasteners:

In the end, the screws would not work (with the door reinstalled), so I ended up using Allen head screws with the Nylocks, and that worked out beautifully:

Hope that helps!

Does someone sell the 'rod' portion of the door limiter assembly? I just noticed that the one from my driver's side door has gone missing.

I'm sure someone has a good used one for a lot less. I had mine replated.

I am in need of the retainer clip. If someone has access to a parts car and would be willing to part with a retainer clip I would like to talk with you. I have the door limiter rod, but my retainer clip is broken.

Thanks

Good idea, Curtis. I didn't think to replate these when plating other items.
I'm about to replace mine with the ones remade by SinCity Datsun. Just got them.
But-- dumb question: Does the rear piece inside the A-piller actually attach to anything or just sit there unattached in between the two wire guides built-in (riveted). I didn't see any pics or commentary on that. I haven't taken apart yet, so maybe this is obvious when I get there, but don't want any surprises or to learn I'm missing anything. Also, any reason the rear part and rubber bumper have notches in the top and bottom, like a retaining clip would grab them? Again, thanks.

I just had new ones made that come with the bump stop. You can buy just one here: https://sincitydatsuns.com/store/p259/N ... stop_.html or I have a listing for a pair as well. I should have the barrel screws for the installation in the next week that I will be adding to the listing for a pair of them.

The wire guides are what the upper and lower tabs on the rear of the limiter slide over and hold the door open.
