Repair and refurbish the doors...

As we all have experienced on our cars, one thing leads to another, AKA “down the rabbit hole we go”. What started as an effort to fix the rattling driver’s side window by addressing the weatherstripping in the channels, led to “while you’re in there you might as well…” adventure.

In the end the adventure included:
• Replace driver’s side mirror
• Install new passenger side mirror
• Replace posties on both doors
• Repair broken tabs of driver’s side rear window channel
• Replace wing window glass weatherstrip
• Replace wing window to door weatherstrip
• Clean up and paint inside of wing window frames
• Replace window bump stop
• New window squeegees
• New interior aluminum door trim
• New interior door panels
• New interior door pulls
• AND…new bump stop on door handle trim!

Squeezed in work between the holidays and family events and FINALLY finished up this weekend. And out for a late afternoon drive on a warm California day. Here are a few pics of the work and results...

What do you use on the aluminum ?? they look brand new ..
Would you have a photo of how your roll bar in mounted to the rear ?? Can you get a soft and hard top to clear the bar ??

My mock up has the hardtop at about a 1/2 of clearance a the sides and about the same of the headliner of the hard top.. Before I tight the hardtop clamps.

Curtis posted the rear/center cap tool. Just a simple jack-screw. Works like magic! (the right tool for the job)

That is new aluminum door trim from Dean. Will eventually also replace the sill trim and other trim around the door frame when he has that back in stock.

The roll bar was already installed when I bought the car from the original owner. The soft top cleared it just fine. There was also a hard top that came with the car, and that cleared as well. I donated the hard top to another owner a number of years back. The soft top fabric was deteriorating so I took it off the frame (still have the frame). I'll be ordering a new soft top this summer, as well as a soft top boot. The old tonneau cover was torn up as well and I just purchased a new one which I need to have fitted to the car. I have 3 of the metal hold down bars that need to be sewn into them all, along with the fasteners. I recently replaced all the twisties/posties so they're ready. I'll probably have everything done at the same time.

Here's how my roll bar mounts:

I plan to take the roll bar out, have it bead blasted and powder coated. That black electrical tape and the rust needs to be taken care of.

JT,
Interesting .. I have two roll bars. One with mounting feet like the one in the photos with plate that are attached to the angular rear floor pan , Another roll bar that has "front" mounting plates which of a a right/angle so that I I would have to cut the metal vertical seam tub weld of the rear package self is.

Did Datsun ever have a "Factory" roll bar for the cars. My First roads that I bought while high school ( the dark ages) had not roll bar or provisions for one. I guess we were expandable back then

I cut the bump stops down on the lower front a-arm. I recently installed the MY springs & didn't know this should be done. When I checked the bump stop clearance it was like 1/16" or less. Wow, should've done that a month ago while the whole front end was apart. No worries, it was a 5 minute job with a small hack saw... Now the front suspension feels proper!

Evrything in the engine bay was/is new and done by JT himself , I didn't want to remove anything and he had just repainted the bay a nice satin black so I left it as is, If the engine ever has to come off for any reason I will paint it then
